Should I brave the 3 hours in a and e? (Foot images)

I think I’ve broken a big toe, it’s getting worse as the day goes on. It’s not bent funny and when I called 111 they stated it would really need an X-ray so I can only go to a and e but it’s up to me if I want to or not. Of course it’s the only way to prevent lasting damage...

It’s not funny shaped or anything and the black circle is where I hit it with the corner of a vinyl tile.. images attached.

Should I just keep it rested?

Personally I probably wouldnt go. Have you iced it to keep sweiing down?

Purplewithred · 08/03/2020 18:22

Personal view, no medical knowledge - You dont have a minor injuries with x-ray locally? TBH I'd do ice/rest tonight and consider waiting until the morning if you can. Big toes are important for balance though so dont just soldier on for a week if it doesn't get substantially better.

Mabelface · 08/03/2020 18:24

As I'm not medically qualified, I'd suggest going to A&E to have it looked at.

MaidenMotherCrone · 08/03/2020 18:24

Even if it's broken, beyond taping it to the next toe, there's nothing they can do.

Freshnewus · 08/03/2020 18:30

Ouch.
I would go. (I'm a Radiographer)
If there's a minor injuries unit local, that might be a shorter wait.

NotquitewhatImeant · 08/03/2020 18:34

Yes I’d go to a minor injuries unit rather than A and E. They can do more than taping for big toes and if it is broken it can cause problems down the line if left untreated with your gait and foot health.

PawPatrolFedUp · 08/03/2020 19:25

It’s minor injuries In my local a and e that told me the wait was currently 2-3 hours.
I’m not going to lie I hurt it Friday and have iced and elevated it since but it’s really hurting and painkillers aren’t touching it much.

Doughball me just doesn’t want to put my LO through a long wait at the hospital

I’d probably wait till tomorrow now but I would go somewhere as it’s the big toe.

eeyore228 · 08/03/2020 19:32

It's likely to be a long wait regardless. Monday will be even worse. Generally, they don't do much. My mum broke her big toe last week. They x-ray’d said it was broken and asked if she had pain relief. You can get something stronger from a pharmacist for the pain but an A&E wait is inevitable if you want it checked out.

I'd go early say 7am Monday morning

A&E is always busiest in the evening.
