How long can you last only sleeping 2-3 hrs a night?

Since getting ill 4 weeks ago I've been having trouble sleeping. It's got worse in the last 2 weeks & I'm now only getting 2-3 hours a night. Luckily, I'm at home in the day, but not napping.

I have sleeping pills here but the issue is more that the illness is causing the insomnia, so that would mean I'd need them every night. Melatonin not helping & that usually does for me.

What happens if you have a period of very little sleep? Do you just eventually sleep for ages? I've had insomnia before, but not as a side effect of anything, so it resolved fairly quickly.

I'm wide awake, it's 4.45am and I'm wondering if it'll just continue until the issue itself resolves.

I know someone who following bereavement reckons she only slept 1 hour/night for about a year. She's a bit strange now... but works, gets her kids to school, etc.

She's a bit strange now.

Haha. That bit made me laugh. I can't see how the body & brain can keep going. I might have to give in & have a sleeping pill this week. 😫
