Hello everyone, I have found the perio threads on here really informative, but I would be really grateful for a periodontist recommendation for London - ideally north London.
I developed periodontal disease whilst pregnant in my 40s. My dentists so far have just been fobbing me off (the perio develped whilst I was under the regular care of a Muswell Hill dentist and never missed an appointment!). I have not been offered effective treatment such as deep cleaning under the gums, antibiotic injections, etc. I was eventually referred to the dental hospital and they did nothing - the consultant just told me to have three teeth extracted!!!
I have just had two extractions and will probably have the third soon. The rest of my teeth are in good condition, without big pockets, but my gums keep bleeding. I clean thoroughly, with a top range sonicare brush, interdental brushes, etc. Sometimes my gums feel better, but overall there seems to be a decline.
I have seen several dentists and they just just keep recommending regular hygienist cleaning, which is clearly not enough. The last dentist I saw poked my gums too hard whilst measuring the pockets and afterwards I developed three abscesses which led to my losing teeth. I am at my wits end! These are not dodgy dental practices, they are in affluent areas like Muswell Hill. It just seems that no one I see cares and/or can point me to someone who can offer effective treatment. Their websites claim they offer scaling and root planning, but when I ask for this they just offer me a 'deep clean', which is basically just removing a bit of plaque around the teeth, or a hygienist cleaning.
So, does anyone have a perio who is trustworthy and effective? I do not mind paying. Many thanks for your help!!!
