Strange reaction to wedding ring.. anyone?

Today (for the 2nd time in a month)I have had to take my wedding ring off,+ dh is not a happy bunny!. This ring has been on my finger for 6 years (apart from the pregnancy swelling bit).

If I leave the ring on it makes the skin very uncomfortable, and red - almost like it is burnt or something. This has only started happening in the last month or so.

This is supposedly a 9ct ring... so what's going on?

I've had the same problem with mine over the last years occasionally. Sounds exactly the something sore like it's a burn (18ct) .The only thing I could put it down to is cleaning products getting underneath.

i have teh same problem with a particular washing up liquid getting trapped under teh ring

agree with Whimsy.

Stick it in an egg cup or similar, and pour boiling water on it, leave the water to cool and give it a good rub with a facecloth or similar. Then repeat, probably solve the problem - chances are its some sort of detergent or perhaps a bit of a fungus - either way, boiling water should solve it

oh, and put some thing like sudocreme on your finger overnight, just to be sure

I get the same problem from time to time. Nelsons calendula cream always sorts it out, but I have to leave the ring off for a few days.

Me as well - my engagement ring doesn't seem to cause any probs. I left my wedding ring off for a few weeks and about 24 hrs after putting it on again my finger went red and itchy again. Left if off for a few months and had about a month of no trouble then it flared up again -left it off for a few weeks and at the mo so far so good - its weird!

This happened to me when i was pregnant. But not just with my wedding ring..also my gold chain, bracelet and earrings!
My ring is fine now but my chain stills irritates me occasionally...and my ds is now 18 months old!
For me, removing the offending items is the only way to stop the irritation....maybe i'll have to start demanding platinum from now on!!!

cheers everyone..
(must stop cleaning methinks!)

I was beginning to think it was something deeply symbolic about the state of our marriage!!!

I get this from time to time too - some kind of contact dermititis - am going to try the boiling water in an eggcup idea! Sounds like a good one!
