I have RLS and associated really severe insomnia so I am up and about at all hours of the night.
Two nights ago at about 3am I was coming downstairs in the dark and slipped.. I fell forward and staggered down the last 4 stairs and hit the corner of a big unit with my left breast and front left shoulder. It was agonizing and I fell further reeling off the corner of the sofa and hitting the floor literally at the front door. The pain in my chest was bad so I lay while thinking about where I hurt.

Two days later I am so sore. My left shoulder front and back, and my arm as far as my elbow. There's an area on my chest about 5" down from my shoulder that is tender. And it hurts to breathe in.
A gel rub eases it for a while.

DH has to help me get into the passenger seat of his car as I can't stretch to the door to close it.

Dr Google says pretty much to give it a couple of weeks to settle and see how it is before seeking treatment. I am coping as long as I don't do much. My knees are scraped and a bit sore to use the stairs.

Anyone here just let something like this just settl e.
Don't fancy a 12 hour wait in Casualty. And a Drs appointment is like gold dust.
I'm dealing with other medical conditions e.g.fibro and diabetes and to be honest can't face the trek involved in getting checked out.
But Nothing is broken..
There's now a sensor light fitted on the staircase :)
Any opinions??? Should I just leave it and let the inflammation settle.

Not medical but do you think you might have broken a rib? Do you have a minor injury unit near you or one worth driving over to? I think it would be best to get it checked out tbh. It may well just be severe bruising but Dr Google’s X-ray vision and hands on ability are notoriously poor.

JosephineTheFlip · 20/02/2020 04:46

Ps sorry about the insomnia. Clearly from the fact that I am posting at 4.45am, I’m with you on that one .

Landlubber2019 · 20/02/2020 05:04

Could you go to a minor injuries unit, it sounds like a broken rib but I would want it checking out!

Insomnia sucks Sad

Sorry you are sore. NHS advise it's not necessary to have an x-ray for a fractured rib. Just take painkillers and let it heal. I would just give yourself time for bruising to go down.

You poor thing. It sounds awful! Do you have a lovely local Pharmacist who might be able to suggest something helpful? I'd suggest arnica tablets and cream (on unbroken skin) and aconite (for shock)- but if you're not into alternatives , ignore me. HmmConfused Sending you love Thanks

See a pharmacist op, they are really helpful I've found.

I've just seen pharmacist and he suggested using the ibuprofen gel go a few days. Have to say it has taken the edge off it :)
