Side of neck hurts but no lumps?

Does anyone know if swollen lymph nodes hurt in your neck? One side of my neck has been sore for nearly 3 weeks, though responds well to ibuprofen. Worse on movement, and the ache sometimes spreads to the shoulder. Also have the sensation of a lump in my throat. But swallowing is fine. I cant feel any lumps or swellings as such in my neck though.

GP not interested, the HCA said it’s probably a virus over the phone and to wait it out.

Could it be the way you've slept? Could need a new pillow? I get awful neck pain and wake up with a headache when my pillow needs replacing. I would go get checked out though if your worried.

My neck hurts if I watch TV for a long time with my head turned, not looking straight ahead at the screen. I don't notice it at the time, but it's quite painful the next day.

I have silent reflux with the lump in my throat feeling. Sometimes my neck hurts on one side and my ears too.

Mascarponeandwine · 17/02/2020 18:22

Managed to get gp appointment for a couple of days time. Wish I could stop worrying and thinking the worst though. Pain changes each day - today my shoulder has been sore but thyroid been ok.

Of course google tells me I have cancer. It’s the waiting for the appointment that’s torturous.

I have Exactly the same symptoms . My neck pain is actually agonising sometimes but gets better over night then gradually worsens through the day. My lump in my throat feels like I haven't swallowed food properly although it actually feels better when I have just eaten.

My neck pain goes from behind one ear downwards.

Mascarponeandwine · 23/02/2020 20:11

@stressedmanager do you have a diagnosis?

No - I haven't been to the GP. I'm a combination of too scared and just imagining it will suddenly get better.

Mascarponeandwine · 28/02/2020 07:25

@Stressedmanager how long have you had the symptoms? This weekend will be 6 weeks for me Sad.

On top of this I’ve managed to catch a cold, so have been croaky and the sore throat has ramped up since last weekend. Now imagining throat cancer and all sorts.

Similar symptoms here...I am 4 months into a lump in my throat feeling. Excessive phlegm.... all day everyday ..... sore throat( possibly brought in by me constantly clearing my throat) and a burning back of tongue.
Am on the waiting list for Ent after trying various nasal sprays and antacids of which nothing helped.
Current wait is 3 months😩😩
I'm 1 month in and completely stressed out with it all....doctor won't fast track me as I can eat and drink ok.

So no words of advice I'm afraid .... just sending you my sympathy.... it's horrible isn't it??? And the more you worry the worse it gets🙁🙁

@Iloveangel 3 months wait Sad Does that mean the gp doesn’t think it’s sinister? It would be a 2 week wait if “urgent”.

I had an odd feeling in my tongue for a couple of days, also towards the back. More like a tingly pins and needles type sensation though, didn’t hurt just weird. Came and went.

I’ve now spoken to 2 different gp’s, both very experienced. They are both flummoxed because I can swallow fine, in fact swallowing food feels more comfortable than not swallowing at all. Kind of soothes the irritation / itches the scratch. So that tends to rule out a swelling or object stuck. Should have a referral to ent come through this week.

The anxiety about it all is worse than the symptoms. Especially when it starts to feel like it’s really going off, yay, then the next morning you’re back to square one.

Hi
Yes , Doctor dosen't think it is sinister as I can eat and drink.
I could have written your post... I actually feel fine when I am eating as as you say it soothes the itch and clears the lump feeling.

I am waiting for my ENT appt and have thought about paying and going privately but I am trying to stay calm and think logically.

Doctor says there are no red flag warnings so I am choosing to believe her... dosen't help my stress though.

The amount of phlegm that is spewing into my mouth is horrible but I just keep drinking fluids and eating. Months of clearing my throat is giving me a sore throat but I have to remind myself I didn't have the sore throat in the first place and it is not constant.

It's really strange as I can get a really dry back of throat that hurts for a few minutes, yet I can easily bring up phlegm on request.

Sorry... that sounds horrible...

This whole episode is horrible !!! And I just want to know what is wrong with me😩

stressedmanager · 01/03/2020 21:12

I've had mine since before Christmas. It's the neck pain which is probably worse than the lump in throat. I too can eat and drink fine and yes feels better when I do.

Lizzibell · 01/03/2020 22:02

I would be tempted to say it's something to do with sleeping on it funny or inadvertently holding your head at an angle for too long. Also are you prone to tonsil stones? Tonsil stones make you feel like you have a scratchy lump in your throat

walkingintherain23 · 30/06/2020 09:25

How are you all getting on? Have any of you had a diagnosis? I’m in the same position, sore neck down one side since the end of March and a feeling of pressure in my throat, like somethings stuck. Waiting on my ENT referral appointment but its a long wait and keeps getting cancelled. Meanwhile I convince myself it’s something awful.

Any updates on this thread? I'm in similar boat

Asterope · 19/08/2020 18:33

@Mascarponeandwine How are you doing now? Did you get to the bottom of this? Love that username

Mascarponeandwine · 19/08/2020 20:01

@asterope the ultrasound and neck mri were clear and the pain eventually cleared up on its own. ENT consultant didn’t have an answer. So I don’t know! Random virus maybe?
