Really painful throat but no tonsils!

I'm so confused!

I had my tonsils out around 10 years ago after suffering recurring bouts of tonsillitis.

I have a bit of a cold at the moment (really just a runny nose) but my throat is absolutely killing me!! It feels exactly like tonsillitis Confused

I also have a slight fever and really struggling to sleep (hence the time of this post)

Has anyone got a clue what may be going on or gone through the same thing?

I've not suffered anything like this since having my tonsils out!

Could it be a sore throat? I've never had tonsillitis but have had a sore throat plenty of times!

I'm not sure, but I'm sure I fed somewhere you can get to tonsillitis without tonsils? In the root that's still there I think? Or something like that... or I might be making this up. Maybe it's worth going to the GP and getting checked out.

No advice really just to say I am also up with a ridiculously sore throat, I'm fed up. Had ibuprofen and got Tyrozets but it's not easing. Hope you get some relief soon OP.

I think I'll see if I can get an appointment with my GP tomorrow,

My glands feel really sore to touch and one side seems a little swollen.

I'm also popping ibuprofen and paracetamol alternatively with only a little relief, also drinking lots of water.

This is shit!!! 😩😩

I had my tonsils removed as a teenager, by my 30's they had grown back Sad

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 31/01/2020 05:00

Could be strep throat

UncomfortableSilence · 31/01/2020 05:33

I had my tonsils out as a child, to be fair they have grown back a little, however, whenever I get a cold I generally always get an awful sore throat too.

Tyrozets or Difflam spray are both really good.

How's your throat OP? I've had a miserable day with mine, nothing is easing it

Newyearsameoldme2020 · 31/01/2020 19:05

My tonsils burned out (according to an ent) so I cant get tonsillitis any more but can still get a sore throat. It's the area behind the tonsils that becomes red and sore now for me but I don't get the swollen tonsils and puss etc

DeathMetalMum · 31/01/2020 19:18

I had something similar a couple of weeks ago. Extremely sore throat and glands were up, I could feel them and one was a little sore. I took ibuprofen for a couple of days and it cleared up.

It might be glandular fever! It felt like I was swallowing razors when I had it as a teen. The only way to check is via a mono spot blood test though. Get some good, numbing lozengers or throat sprays to help.
