First teeth, how long does it take for them to come through once you can feel them underneath he gum?

ds is 8 months and has been teething for ages. Yeterday I could see and feel a sharp bit just starting to poke through!! Finally!!! How long do they usually take to properly appear once the start coming to the surface??

Dd's take up to a week at this point and then take ages to "grow" up to full height. She is a bit asymetric at the moment and the "matching" tooth has been taunting us since July...

Was hoping things would get a bit better once they were actually through, ie less disturbed sleep, is this usually the case??

Yes, the growing up seems to be less painful than the breaking through IYSWIM.
