What on earth is this mark on my toe?!

I have had this mark on my toe for couple of months now. It's not raised or painful but it has definitely got bigger! I've tried everything I can think of to keep my feet healthy, moisturised lots and stopped wearing nail polish. Is it a waste of GP's time to ask them to look at this?

Any skin marks/discolouration that grow should be checked.

It looks like extravasation from pressure or a small corn to me. I would go to a podiatrist and have it removed with a scalpel.
Have you been wearing fashion shoes that put pressure on the tip of that toe?

KindnessCrusader · 10/01/2020 23:20

No I'm absolutely rubbish in heels and haven't worn them for around 8 years Grin

Looks like a stubborn blood blister to me, maybe?

madcatladyforever · 10/01/2020 23:21

extravasation: The movement of cells out of a blood vessel into tissue during inflammation.

KindnessCrusader · 10/01/2020 23:21

I did wonder about a blood blister but it's not raised at all and is more brown than red. I'm just worried a Dr will think I'm crazy if I go in and present them with this!

You can get it even if you wear good shoes, lots of walking, jumping around etc. It just needs to be removed with a scalpel or checked to make sure it isn't some other kind of lesion. Its difficult to tell from a photo but it does look like 90% of the callus type lesions I remove from feet.

EBearhug · 10/01/2020 23:24

Have you stubbed your toe or anything you remember?

madcatladyforever · 10/01/2020 23:24

Extravasation is that colour and it's harmless, it just turns into a callus where the blood has pooled under the skin.

KindnessCrusader · 10/01/2020 23:24

That's really reassuring @madcatladyforever thank you! I will get it looked at armed with my newly learned word!

I go to a dermatologist every year for a full skin check from head to toe. She always emphasises the importance of getting new or changing skin things checked. In the extremely unlikely event that it’s a cancerous or precancerous thing, early detection is best.

KindnessCrusader · 10/01/2020 23:26

@EBearhug no, well, no more than usual! I am quite clumsy...

Try scraping it off yourself with whatever you use to get skin off your feet. The reason it’s brown is probably because it’s a tiny bit of old blood under the skin.
