for about a year now i have had this problem where (to much info coming up!) my ear weeps, likea kind of runny/smelly wax, beocmes sore/raw under where the wax/puss settles and becomes a kind of scab all around the ear.its not right right inside, so no prob with drum, just more the canal and some outside.

just been to doc again and hes given me a spray with anti biotic in, but im getting this every thre four weeks now, its sore, smells and bloody awful.
has anyone had same thing or any idea what to do to prevent it?
doc just told me what it was called but english isnt his strong point and i couldnt understand the name

Hey pinkchick - was it otitis externa? It just outer ear (canal) inflammation) really, but it's horrible isn't it? I have loads of ear problems (inclu. deaf in that ear), but had this badly for a year or so. If you've had it for a year, you definitely need referring to an ENT specialist, who will probably given you antib's plus a steroid. The problem is the inflammation needs to go down, otherwise it keeps getting infected. As Hayley said, could also be fungal, but they'd know to look for that too.......problem with just sticking drops in your ears is that at some point they might stop working so well. They're obviously not keeping it under control. Also, and I don't wish to alarm you here, but my persistent ear infections, however external, have always been an indication that there's an infection behind the ear drum. It needs looking at.

My ENT in fact prescribes something which is sold as eye drops (on prescription that is).. and it worked a charm to calm down the outer ear.

Go back to your GP or to minor injuries if you have one.. and get a referral.

good luck!
