Nova T-380 coil - help!

Hello, newbie here, just needing some advice.

I had a Nova T coil fitted by my GP about eight months ago. For the first five months or so it was fine, I had no problems with it at all, but since I got my period two months ago the bleeding hasn't stopped at all. It is driving me crazy -one day it'll be really light like spotting, then the next it is very heavy, then vice versa. I've asked my GP to remove it but he won't until we find another non-hormonal contraceptive (I have PCOS so hormonal treatments mess me up even ore than normal!). I'm at a loss, really want it removed so the bleeding will stop.

Has this happened to anyone else?

i had one fitted after having dd2(my 4th child)and bled almost constantly afterwards, and had it removed after 3 months.i had had 2 copper coils before that with no problems, and i have another one(novaT-thingy)now which ive had for 4 months with no problems.

has your gp checked the coil hasnt moved?i personally think the one i had problems with was badly fitted and wasnt in the right place.

I think I've got the same coil too. I think I have it may have given me bacterial vaginisis (sp), and I may have to have it taken out. I do like the coil on the whole though. Can you use a cap? I did have one, but it didn't really suit me very well. It's not a good idea to confuse the spermicidal cream with toothpaste - it numbs your mouth!!

It can't be good for you to be bleeding all that much, surely?

If nothing else, there's always good ol' condoms!

I would see the nurse and ask for swabs and a smear. Irregular bleeding can be due to low grade infection. Maybe also ask the GP for a referral for a pelvic ultrasound.

Have you thought about a cap or diaphragm? They can be very good as long as you use them properly!

Hi,

I have had the Nova T for 18 months. I have had also suffered from bacterial vaginosis on a couple of occasions but the Dr says this is not caused by the coil. I had irregular periods for about 6 months and now my regular periods last about 2 weeks. The reason i am posting this is to see if anyone else has gained weight using this method. I am not eating any more than I used to but have put on over a stone in weight. Has this happened to anyone else? I know people who have gained weight with the mirena coil but I donn't know anyone using the Nova T.

I would also recommend asking about having some swabs taken.

If all is clear and you are still getting the annoying bleeding and want it removing then go ahead.

As for non-hormonal methods: Condoms, Diaphragm, Fertily awareness (either by yourself or with Persona) combined with abstinence or extra precautions during fertile times.

Hi, im new at this too, but seeking some help.

I have had the Nova T 360 or 380 (can't rememeber which) for 5 months now and the last 5 months have been hell!!!! i have been back to the Family Planning twice and all she says is that i have never ovulated before which is not true as i was on the pill for 16 year then had a break for 9 months before falling for my little boy and my periods were fine at that time and then there after i gave birth they were ok.

I am only having bout 18 days between periods, they are hevey and last 10 days (normaly 4 days max and not to hevey)- that is not the worst of it, the cramps i am receiving are very very painfull as in they take your breath away now i am not too much of a wimp with pain but these do hurt. The dr thought i had thrush as well as i was getting a dishcharge which was milky, i was tested and all came back clear but still having the discharge.

All in all i am going to throw the towel in and ask for it to be removed - do you know if you can have it done on your period or off your period?

Get yourself to the doc ASAP youngmummy. They'll probably give you condoms or something. It could be an infection, but you need to get it sorted out.
