I have just got to the stage where I have almost stopped breastfeeding. I feel very rough. Bad head, chills one minute and very hot the next and very achy. My breast also feel abit sore although they are not red or swollen. Could it be mastitis?

I'd say yes it could. I had mastitis when ds2 was younger and felt feverish, flu like and very ill. It came on suddenly over the course of the day and I only had slight redness but no swelling. I needed antibiotics from the dr the same day and felt better within a day or two. One other sign I had which got worse was severe pain when feeding from that side. It was awful and I felt like crying every time he fed, it does help in the long run though.

What really works is spreading quark cream cheese on gauze and slapping it on your boob. A tried and tested Swiss remedy. You have to leave it on overnight or a whole day.

I felt so ill that I could barely move so I think antibiotics was best for me and I felt so much better quite quickly. The feeding pain wasn't helped but that stopped after a few days as it cleared up. I really felt ill and I was only 3 weeks after giving birth with 2 other children to look after as well. Unfortunately dh had just had a vasectomy the day before so couldn't help out much either.

Thanks, that is wonderful advice. Not usually a fluish person, so thought bit strange. I have practically stopped so thought that could rule mastitis out. Have tried getting dd to feed but she is not interested and I am terrible at expressing.
