Ds' scars - anything I can put on them?

He has 3 scars ( 2 little, 1 quite long) from his lymph node surgery and I'm wondering if I can help to reduce the appearance of them for when he's older )only 16 months now).

I don't know - but I think they will fade quite a bit naturally.
DS's have.

I had lymph nodes removed and you cannot see the scars unless i point them out - they are hardly noticable.
I'm sure there must be something now that you can used, but i didnt.

No Nip, that's good to know. His scars are quite purple but his surgery was only 3 weeks ago. Wanted to wait til they are well and truly healed befofre putting anything on them but was wondering about some vitamin E stuff. Would hate him to feel self conscious as a teenager and know I'd done nothing to help while he's still a baby IYKWIM

Bio Oil is fantastic stuff and I have used tem on scars and when I was pregnant 4 years ago (and no stretch marks!).

Also, E45 cream is good and not greasy so you may want to try this.

Vitamin E is for scars I think? Best to check as I am no expert!

DS had an op to bring down an undescended testicle when he was 3. He is now 6 and it is hardly noticeable. They fade so much.

Vit E oil is good for scars though and will do no harm. Also lavender oil.

Should I check with the doctor? Vitamin E is surely a natural thing so should be fine, but not sure?

Bio oil is fine to use soon after surgery, I was advised by the doctor who did my cs to start using it one week after my stitches came out. (unless it's different for children?). Have also heard of doctors recommending breaking vitamin E capsules open and rubbing the contents on scars. I can't imagine either would do any harm, but I'm no expert!

I have something based on Rosehip Oil (also has a bit of natural Vitamin E in) in the cupboard which my Mum used after her hip replacement. If you would like to CAT me with your address I will happily pop some in the post for you . It is suitable for his age group.

I have always put pure Aloe Vera on anything like that. Once a friend severely burnt his face (whilst drunk and trying to down absynth that was alight). He used it all the time, carrying a bit of aloe vera stalk wrapped in clingfilm in his pocket around with him all the time, and it cleared it up beautifully.

I keep a good supply of the plants, but not sure where you could buy one from.

You just break off some of the stalk and squeeze out the juice onto the scar/cut/spot...whatever really.

I am sure DS will heal well though as he is so young.

just in case no-one has said it yet - childrens scar ususally heal very well with little noticeable scarring.

IME the main thing is to keep them completely out of the sun. I have a large scar from when I was little, the half that got some sun is still visible (although not terrible). The half that never got any sun is barely noticeable.

good point ib. Have been using sun block on the one which might catch the sun, the other two are tucked under his chin.
