has done for 3 days. Now it's hot on the outside as well as being sore on the inside. Apart from taking ibuprofen, what can I do to stop it?

When this happened to me (last Xmas) it was absolute agony and I went to the doc:

Me: Doc, my ear really hurts, I think there might be a spot inside it.
Doc: Where do you think this spot is then?

Me: Well...
Doc: BLARDY HELL!

It was a huge abcess, I was on antibiotics for a week and then had to go and have it popped anyway cos they didn't work well enough. So PLEASE go and see your doc and don't leave it for a week and a half like I did!

Have you tried Earex and a wodge of cotton wool ? Also a warm hot water bottle can be very soothing, and my mum used to swear by a silk scarf as soothing !!!

I ahve earache too !

DANCESwithDumbledore · 20/08/2007 20:22

Extra strength ibuprofen is doing the job at the moment! I might try earex tomorrow if it's still sore, I don't want to keep taking ibuprofen
Thanks! Hope your ear is better soon too.

Gave in and went to the dr today. Have an ear infection and a two week course of antibiotic drops to fix it...tis a nasty one. See I should have listened yesterday shouldn't I?!

Oooooh, I have the utmost sympathy. I had a bit of a sore ear yesterday but put it down to the usual soreness I get from wearing a radio earpice at work for 10 or 11 hours a day. Today though I can't even eat it hurts sooooo baaad. Docs tomorrow for me too!

Hope you are soon feeling better!

DANCESwithDumbledore · 21/08/2007 20:25

Thank you! I'm always tragically pleased when the dr says there is something 'proper' wrong with me so I know I'm not just being a big wuss!

Oh dear - I hate to say it - but "I told you !!"

Sometimes a/bs are the only solution !

hope you feel better soon - mine always start going within about 12 hours of the first dose so fingers crossed !
