Switching from vagifem to ovestin

Hi, I'm using vagifem for lactational vaginal atrophy since having my baby 5 months ago. My doctor has switched me from vagifem to ovestin and didn't explain why!? Are they very different?

I was on the twice weekly maintenance dose of vagifem, do I carry on twice weekly with ovestin or start the 2 weeks of daily doses as it's a new medication!? No idea what to do and the doctor didn't explain it to me!

Thanks!
Danielle.

Speak to a pharmacist.

They are both different Estrogens but do the same job although i found Vagifem better than Ovestin, it is probably to do with cost, Vagifem is about 4X the cost of Ovestin.
When i switched from Ovestin to Vagifem i was told to do 2 week reload, but as you get on with the Vagifem i would ring surgery and say you want to continue with the Vagifem.

Been to dr told dont need to do reload when switching from ovestin to vagifem. And can use ovestin on outside 2 time week same time as vagifem. But wouldn't that double amount ConfusedConfused

Seems to me girls it's about what works for you ,still I know low absorption. But if it only stays locally, why can you not use estrogen or ovestin estradiol when breast feeding .some must get into blood stream .and yes still tummy cramps after going back vagifem hopefully it will settle. For me using ovestin and vagifem in and out to much,so maybe use just vagifem and keep ovestin for bad days .keep up with moisturiser. Seems to be whatever's suits .anyone out there in my boat feel I am on island here girls .Shock
