Bled after sex but I had a clear smear result in late September

A little anxious.

I'm 25 and had my first smear in September, my result came back clear and no need to repeat until three years time.

I had sex this evening and noticed a small amount of blood when I wiped after using the toilet.

Should I be concerned? How reliable are smears these days?

Potentially relevant factor, I do have a mild/moderate bladder prolapse from childbirth (7mo postpartum) if that makes a difference or can explain away the bleeding.

There are lots of causes of bleeding after sex that aren’t cervical cancer. I had an ectropion which wouldn’t go.

It’s important to get checked but the chances are it’s absolutely nothing to worry about.

I sometimes time bleed after sex. When I was 21(29 now) I bled a lot after sex, after 3/4 clears smears (I demanded them) I eventuality got a biopsy done and the results where pre cancerous cells which I got treated. Still occasionally bleed but still clear smears. I should really go back. X

You're very right Purple, my rational brain tells me exactly the same but I've always been easily alarmed by things that could suggest the dreaded C word.

I was so relieved after my smear as I was terrified of having it, being my first one.

This is the only time it has happened that I can recall noticing, and I have had sex a handful of times over the past fortnight.

Christ that's really frightening loveskaka, good on you for demanding the smears when you did. Cases like yours are the reason I'm concerned, I've read a handful of stories from women who have had problems despite clear smears and I'm bewildered by that as the smears are supposed to be very effective and virtually stamp out CC if kept up with.

Please do go back. I do hope everything turns out to be ok for you x

Oh rational thought goes out if the window when that sort of thing happens to me. Don’t feel bad!
The best thing is to talk to your GP. They will probably examine you and send off a few tests. Like I said, it’s almost certainly nothing serious.

I'm due back at the doctors this week for something unrelated so I'll raise it when i get there.

I've had multiple HCP's checking down below since April, two doctors and a uro gynacologist (prolapse related) and all three have said my cervix looks health so that coupled with a clear recent smear should be enough to reassure me really, not enough to avoid getting checked again but enough to stop me panicking - I wish it was Blush

I had that symptom and it was something else simple, but I’m glad I know or id be continually worrying. Best to get it checked

I started to bleed after sex. I went the doctors and they did tests and sent me to a specialist and it was due to having a cervical ectropian.. It's really common. I could of had a minor procedure done to help it but didn't want too.. I've only bled a few times because of it.

Go back to your GP for further investigation. They might redo the smear and send you to the GUM clinic to check for STDs.

PurpleDaisies · 12/11/2019 22:55

Unfortunately, it isn’t one of those things that can be ignored. It has to be checked just in case, although with your detailed history your GP will be in a better position to decide that.

Embarrassing update Blush

I feel sore down below so had a closer inspection with a mirror and the blood isn't coming from inside.

It's coming from the site where I was stitched after birth (perennial) It's sore and irritated from the friction of the condom.

Well I feel like a pillock now.

@Eviepat this happened to me after my episiotomy- still does occasionally - it's like a paper cut I have that sometimes reopens, I've read it can happen when the scar heals tight xxx

MyGoodTimes · 13/11/2019 10:13

Don't feel embarrassed. Go back to your GP. They can refer you and give you the correct advice. It could get infected if left untreated.
