Mini pill, period problems and now and weird symptoms … anyone else had this?

I’m going to go through the full history as there may be something relevant in the history I’m not aware of.

I suffer really badly with heavy and painful periods. When younger I was on the combined pill and just ran them back to back for years. Sadly age (mid 40s), weight and blood pressure combine and that is no more.

In 2013 I had a mirena coil put in purely for period control. I had none of the horror symptoms some people report however it didn’t actually achieve what I was hoping for. My periods eased and were less painful for a while. I totally forgot about it since I didn’t need it for contraception as DH has had the snip. Then about a year ago DH said “does your coil need replacing” - as he’d noticed my periods were getting worse again. Clearly it did so off I trot to the doctors.

March this year – couldn’t get the bastard thing out. Referred to Gyno at the hospital who sent me for a scan. Confirmed large fybroids (yes I knew that anyway) but could see the coil was roughly where it was meant to be but slightly lodged on one of them. Hospital then referred me to the local women health service who specialise in coild replacements in difficult cases. Except they then decided they couldn’t do anything as I didn’t need the coil for contraception and they were only allowed to deal with contraception issues.

So in July I spoke with my doctor again who referred me back to gyno with a strongly worded referral letter. By September, still nothing so I had another appointment with doctor. By this time my periods are back to super tampax and pads at the same time and popping codeine as well as anti-inflammatories. She was exasperated I’d not even had a letter from the hospital so wrote another more strongly worded referral letter.

Suggested I try the mini pill and/or transexemic acid – gave me scripts for both. I said I’d try the mini pill as I’d never had any issues with hormonal contraception before. Well first period was a charm – I was well chuffed. No need for any pain killers. Transexemic acid never even came out of the box.

However, I was due on again three weeks ago. Since then I’ve been bloated with PMT symptoms almost constantly and on and off cramps for the entire three weeks. I’ve never wished my bloody period would arrive so much – I normally dread it – just to shift the symptoms. There is zero chance I am pregnant and smear test earlier this year was negative. I know I’ve got fibroids but I’ve had them over 20 years and they’ve never done this!

So I’ve stopped taking the mini pill to see if that encourages Aunt Flo to be in residence.

Have another appointment with my doctor on the 21st anyway but I’m getting hacked off with this.

Has anyone got any thoughts? I’m probably being unreasonable to hope its menopause so the whole bloody things just goes away. The women in my family never have any issues with menopause so to me its not a bad thing.
