Hi all,
I had major abdominal surgery 11 days ago and I have got an infection in my wound. I saw a dector yesterday and got prescribed antibiotics and the staples are due to be removed on Tuesday
Do you think I should go and have it looked at again tomorrow?
I feel ok in myself, no temperature or anything just miserable and in pain 😭

The nurse sounds like a good one!

Hopefully she’ll have you ‘mended’ soon 🌷

Two weeks is a long time in terms of after surgery recovery- don’t fret about that yet! At least being self employed, you don’t have to worry about being fired 👍🏻🌸. Just clients - and frankly if they don’t understand 🤷🏻‍♀️ You’ll find others!

Are you feeling up to seeing a friend tomorrow? Or a bit of online Christmas shopping or something nice?

Wow OP, you are such a strong woman!! Don’t pressure yourself that you must recover quickly. Be kind to yourself. 🌷

So sorry to read what you’ve been through. Definitely make a complaint, this isn’t right.

@Collision
I am overweight and have always carried excess weight round my stomach. Yes it was big but I thought I was just getting fatter but I hadn’t realised just how big it was getting. I don’t wear jeans, just leggings/shirts with elastic waists and we don’t have a full length mirror.
When I had the MRI scan that I paid for to try and find out why my sciatica wasn’t getting any better they couldn’t squash my big belly into the scanner we realised things were not normal.
I lost 3 stone on the operating table which was just mad!!
And I was the talk of the ward!
The infection is definitely under control now that I’m going every day to have it cleaned, packed and dressed
Thank you all for your encouraging words 🙂

Very good news! Hope that now the infection is under control, your recovery continues well.
You certainly do have quite a story to tell. It must feel so weird.

Good on you to trust your own judgement and have a private scan. You saved your own life!
What did the GP said when he/she realised the massive error of judgement made?

Good grief you have been through the wars.
Daily district nurses should get you right with the correct care for once
Sending hugs ❤️

Crikey I posted on your thread last week, I can't believe what a frigging nightmare you've had since then! And before that too obviously.

What poor treatment, they refused YOU an MRI?! With a 50lbs cyst?

Sorry, don't mean to stress you. Sounds like the nurse you have now is on the money

Hi all,
Quick update 🙂
I’m still having to go to the surgery or hospital every day to have the wound cleaned, packed and dressed.
I’m on antibiotics again, the infection, in the words of the nurse is “retreating but still fighting back!”
I’m back at work next Monday so desperately hoping it clears soon.
Still waiting for an appointment from the hospital regarding the biopsy results, really want to be told the cancer has all been removed 🤞

Glad you’re still with us OP!

Really hope things improve for you this week.

Please don’t be forcing yourself back into work if you’re not well enough. That could be disastrous.

Best of luck with biopsy results.

Great to hear from you, fudge!

Bet you're sick of going to the hospital.

So you're due back in a week's time? Do you think you could get an extension? It seems very soon.

How are you feeling in yourself?

itsAlmostXmas · 26/11/2019 03:06

Sorry to hear your recovery is slow. Is there an ETA for the hospital app't so you have a timeline you can conceive of?

If you are still unwell next week make sure you take the time off you need to recover and rest

IncrediblySadToo · 26/11/2019 08:45

Oh you poor thing, that’s rubbish!!

You’re going to need more time off to heal - you’ll make it worse rushing back! It’s a big operation you’ve had & the complications & antibiotics etc

Your two weeks is up, so hopefully you’ll get the (good) results any day now 🌷

Thank you for being brave to share. Can I say when the staples are out, manuka honey is very good for helping to heal scars and might be worth thinking about. Good luck.

Hi all,
I’ve got an appointment with the surgeon this Friday for my post op check and hopefully the results of the biopsies. 🤞
I’m self employed as a childminder and can’t afford to be closed for any longer. I work with my husband and we are having half the children back next week and the rest the following week. He can do all the lifting etc and he does the school runs anyway.
@managedmis
I feeling ok in my self
I had a major meltdown last night and again this morning. The worries about money, the stress of having to go to the surgery or hospital every day, going back to work and my very difficult relationship with my adult DD just become too much ☹️
@FrancisCrawford
Can’t get the wound wet ☹️
@Hepsibar
Having the staples out was one of the worse experiences of my life, especially the infected bits

I hope you get the results on Friday, and obviously that they’re good news 🌷

I hope you’re feeling up to having the children next week, I guess with both of you doing it you need to have them back, but if it was me I’d totally understand if you weren’t up to it though

Sorry to hear about your relationship with your DD. Lots of mums/Daughters struggle - were not all rocking the ‘Hallmark’ quotes!

It’s VERY draining having to go for the wound dressings every day, hopefully it won’t be necessary much longer!!

Hope you sleep well tonight - it helps loads
Take care 🌷
