Hi all,
I had major abdominal surgery 11 days ago and I have got an infection in my wound. I saw a dector yesterday and got prescribed antibiotics and the staples are due to be removed on Tuesday
Do you think I should go and have it looked at again tomorrow?
I feel ok in myself, no temperature or anything just miserable and in pain 😭

Hope you managed some sleep, I know how hard to sleep on a ward is. X

You're in the right place, even though I know it's the last place you want to be. I had a liver liver resection and cyst removed in April, similar sized scar and opening. It will heal and get better, but if at any point it doesn't feel right don't be afraid to question it, far better than an unchecked complication. Glad they took it all out, keep talking. The shock / enormity of all of it can hit you after.

Hi all,
Had a horrible sleepless night, the heating is on full and the ward is hotter than hell itself
Having iv antibiotics and the wound has been cleaned and dressed. The doctors have had a look and are very much hoping I won’t have to have it reclosed 🤞

I’m so pissed off that it’s got infected, I’ve done nothing but rest since the surgery as I’ve been told to do. I just want to put this whole nightmare behind me and get on with my life

I'm so sorry for you. I hope the antibiotics do there job and you're soon home again.

Hospital wards can be so hot and stuffy.

Really hoping the antibiotic drip will sort things out.

I don’t know how you’re feeling physically, but is it possible/are you allowed to go for a little trundle (with everything still attached) to pop outside the building for a few minutes to get some fresh air?

Crikey OP you've been through it. Hoping your on the mend and home asap and the results are cancer free. Stay strong and take care Flowers

How are you today op? Have they said how long they'll keep you in?

Report
fudgesmummy · 13/11/2019 16:48

I’m still here ☹️
As well as the main infection I’ve got cellulitis around the wound as well now.
I’m waiting for the wound specialists to come and look at it and hopefully make a plan that I can go home and they will come out to me every day to clean and dress it.
I’m getting fed up with haveing to nag the nurses to change the dressing regularly.
I can’t see that I’m coming home any time soon 😭

Oh no, that sounds most unpleasant for you.

I guess you’re still in the best place for now. I hope you’re not too bored or in too much pain.

How tedious that you have to hassle the nurses to sort your dressings out! That must be an added stress for you.

Is the food ok (if you’re able to eat)?
