2 week referral support

MyBeloved · 21/10/2019 21:20

Hi everyone

So, I got a 2 week wait referral to a gastroenterologist today. I'm feeling a bit nervous and wondered if anyone else was in the same situation so we could support one another?

@MyBeloved I’ve actually been much better today but I’ve been so busy I haven’t had a minute to think. No appointment as yet but I didn’t expect one so soon. Have you got an appointment date?

Caelaj07 · 30/10/2019 11:27

I’ve got my appointment through for Friday. I feel less anxious now knowing I don’t have to wait too long

DobbinIsUnVeiledAsSatan · 30/10/2019 13:59

Lost post X 2 🤦🤦

Very reassured. Need a scan, but most likely a lot down to thyroid problems (underactive). Says I'm really under-medicated. Prescribed something for period heaviness. Was examined, both internal and thorough squidging(!).

So need to wait for scan and will see consultant again 3/4 weeks. Cancer least likely cause but also keen to help with the issues I am having. Was very kind when I explained why I wasn't up to date with smears( I cried a bit) and checked the 3rd degree repair from DS3's birth.

Caelaj07 · 30/10/2019 16:13

@DobbinIsUnVeiledAsSatan That’s great news that cancer is the least likely cause and that they are keen to help with the issues and been thorough. Bet that’s a huge relief

DobbinIsUnVeiledAsSatan · 30/10/2019 18:09

Thanks Caelaj07 I'm very relieved. Although she did say she was surprised I hadn't fallen asleep driving with my thyroid TSH levels which was a bit out there 😳.

Got my scan booked in for Sunday, which has the added bonus of not needing childcare.

Glad you've got your appointment through, I hope it goes well 🤞

MyBeloved · 30/10/2019 20:09

@Caelaj07, so glad you have your appointment through, means you can get it out the way and get some reassurance.
My appointment is this coming Sunday! Strange day for it, but there you go! It will be 13 days from when I first went to the gp.

@DobbinsVeil, what fantastic news! I am over the moon for you. Hope you get your TSH levels sorted now Flowers

@DobbinIsUnVeiledAsSatan that is wonderful news. How reassuring. I’m really pleased for relieved for you.

@Caelaj07 that’s not too long to wait at all.

I finally got my appointment - not until next Thursday so long weeks wait ahead..

DobbinIsUnVeiledAsSatan · 31/10/2019 12:48

I'm glad your appointment has come through ForeverBaffled, it felt like it took forever to get to the weekend then all of a sudden I was at the hospital.

Not long to go now MyBeloved. 🤞 Crossed for you too. I couldn't quite process having a weekend appointment when they rang about the scan.

I had my routine blood test for my thyroid this morning. After I'd done the pressure on the cotton wool thing, it was still actively bleeding and the phlebotomist asked if I was on blood thinners, which I'm not. I've had a few blood tests and only ever had the opposite (blood reluctant to come out). It stopped fine and no bruise etc but I'm feeling a bit unnerved which is silly.

Skap · 31/10/2019 14:55

Can I just invite you to the cancer thread. It's there for all who are waiting for tests and appointments as well as those undergoing treatment. Lots of support on there.

Caelaj07 · 01/11/2019 10:00

I’ve been to my appointment, they couldn’t confirm what it was so sent me immediately for it cutting out and sending it for biopsy and I’ve now got to wait up to 8 weeks for the results. In the meantime I have stitches in my neck and it’s gone. Even if it is more serious it can’t grow anymore so some slight relief. @MyBeloved good
Luck for your appointment Sunday

DuckWillow · 01/11/2019 10:06

We are on a two week referral for DH as it appears he has a kidney stone (all the symptoms of).

However they have to rule out “other causes” so he’s got an ultrasound and a cystoscope on the 5th.

As I recently had a distant cousin who died as a result of kidney cancer at the age of 42 I am nervous although I know statistically it’s very rare to have such a cancer at a young age,

Keeping everything crossed for DH that it is indeed “just a kidney stone”.

Caelaj07 · 01/11/2019 11:15

@DuckWillow Not long to wait, fingers crossed it is just a kidney stone and this is just a precautionary procedure

DobbinIsUnVeiledAsSatan · 01/11/2019 11:23

Caelaj07 I'm glad it's been removed straight away and hope the results are back with good news soon. I hope it's not too sore.

DuckWillow The worry is understandable, I hope your husband's appointment brings reassurance and rules out anything sinister.

ForeverBaffled · 01/11/2019 11:44

@Caelaj07 I’m so glad they’ve removed it! That in itself must be such a relief. I think with biopsy results no news is good news so if it’s anything concerning you will likely hear much sooner.

@DuckWillow fingers crossed for your DH. I know it’s a worry but sounds like it’s much more likely to be kidney stones.

Can’t believe still 6 more days until my appointment. The waiting is excruciating.

Caelaj07 · 01/11/2019 22:15

It is sore now and I had booked a weekend away with my husband and the kids so no time to rest, I really wanted to stay home but my eldest was excited to get away so I’m in Southport pushing through. @ForeverBaffled your 6 days will pass before you know it, although the waiting is awful.

DobbinOnTheLA · 02/11/2019 21:34

Good luck for your appointment tomorrow MyBeloved

I hope you're able to catch up on some rest Caelaj07. Hope you've managed to enjoy the trip a bit and are more comfortable soon.

ForeverBaffled, I hope the next few days zoom by.

I've got my scan tomorrow and had my appointment date back to see the consultant come through for the 27th.

MyBeloved · 03/11/2019 00:23

@DobbinsVeil, thank you! It is 1st thing so glad I get it out of the way. Good luck for your scan also Flowers
@ForeverBaffled, how are you feeling now?
@DuckWillow, hoping you can get some reassurance. It is true, the waiting around is horrible!

OP posts:
MyBeloved · 03/11/2019 00:25

@Caelaj07, so pleased they are taking things seriously. It is probably nothing sinister but having it removed straight away is definitely for the best. Hope you're not too sore x

So, the consultant made me feel a total fraud for seeing him. He had not read my notes - I have a very complicated recent medical and surgical history. Ended up with a referral to endoscopy.

Feel a bit meh.

OP posts:
ForeverBaffled · 03/11/2019 12:55

I’m sure you do. I’m so sorry you didn’t feel properly listened to. Was there any reassurance at all? And when will the endoscopy be? So frustrating when you’re not given time. Flowers

MyBeloved · 03/11/2019 13:13

@foreverbaffled, I have never come across a medic with such poor listening and communication skills. I got very frustrated. He asked me about my periods when I no longer have a uterus, cervix or ovaries! He looked at scans I'd had while was there and asked me what I wanted. I explained I had been referred to him by my GP so requested he advise me as a professional!

Endoscopy is being booked, but no idea when this will be for.

Hope you're okFlowers

ForeverBaffled · 03/11/2019 14:16

That’s unacceptable behaviour. I’m sure he knows his stuff and has made an appropriate decision but really you shouldn’t have to fill him in on those kind of crucial details. I hope you are okay. Hopefully you won’t ever have to see him again!

DobbinOnTheLA · 03/11/2019 15:24

I'm sorry MyBeloved the Consultant sounds awful. I hope that you at least get the endoscopy appointment through quickly. And a different consultant for any follow up.

My scan was fine "nothing obvious, no big cysts" was what the radiologist said. Report will be ready in a week but I've already got my consultant appt booked for end of the month.

Caelaj07 · 03/11/2019 21:30

@MyBeloved I’m sorry your consultant didn’t listen properly, you could always ask for another consultant? I hope your endoscopy appointment comes through quickly.
@DobbinsVeil that’s good that the radiologist said there is nothing obvious and you have an appointment booked already to discuss results

ForeverBaffled · 03/11/2019 21:37

@DobbinOnTheLA that’s great news! I’m so relieved for you. Do you feel totally reassured?
