Dh fainted twice last night- what could be the reason?

He has no other health issues we're aware of. He woke up, went to the loo, fainted, recovered, fainted again.

Low blood pressure? Low blood sugar?
Not eaten enough? Exercises too much?
Just a couple of ideas. Hopefully it's nothing more than one of those.

A virus - the start of flu or a tummy bug?

Is he going to see a Dr today? It could be any number of things so he really needs to be checked out.

This happened to me earlier this year and turned out to be a heart problem.

No, probably one of what what the first poster said. If he got up in the middle of the night I am guessing low blood pressure which generally isn’t a big deal unless it happens a lot in the day too. Good luck at dr!

I know someone this happened to. His wife is a dr and she said it’s a commonish thing with blokes peeing in the night. They go from lying down to standing which drops their BP and then peeing drops their BP as well. So if he’s got up a bit quicker than normal, peed a bit quicker, or more volume than normal, or not eaten/drunk much that day it doesn’t need much to tip them over the edge.

How soon after the first time was the second one. Because if he was coming round, stood up and fainted again he probably just got up too quick from the first episode.

Lots of issues.... Many small but some bigger ones so best to get checked out.

Was he totally out of it?
My husband did this a few years ago while eating breakfast...late 40s, has habit of coughed on food stood up to clear it and literally hit the floor. He hadn't been struggling to breathe. Out for a short while. Got him up and got him to sit down.bit groggy but hadn't banged head.. Pulse up and varied . Rang NHS helpline... Eventally answered.. They wanted to send ambulance 😱 negotiated that I'd take him to be checked out. They did..full MOT Inc ecg. No issues identified. I thought just one of those things perhaps body response to blocked airway (wasn't sure had)

Less than 4 weeks later he had a heart attack that didn't show as such straight away on ecg.. I always wonder if the two were related...

He should visit his gp.

This happened to a family member who refused to go to the doctor and ten years later had a brain tumour.

Happened my husband last year. Went to doctor. This is a common thing that can happen men who wake in night to pee.

This is pretty common, for safety men should sit to pee if they get up in the night. It is to do with blood pressure dropping but it is pretty scary and can result in injuries if they hit something as they go down.

Most likely hypotension (low blood pressure). Most people’s blood pressure drops when they sleep (heart beating slower at rest etc.) then you stand up so blood pressure to your brain is lowered again, and then finally going for a wee lowers your blood pressure further. It is a common thing- scared the crap out of me when the same thing happened to me, went to the GP and he said almost certainly hypotension (still referred me for a bunch of scans, all came back clear). Now if I wake for a wee in the middle of the night I’m careful- if I start to feel dizzy I get down on my hands and knees or sit down to do my wee- it’s highly likely that it’s nothing more than extreme hypotension caused by the confluence of factors, and entirely benign (if scary). As PP noted it is potentially dangerous if you hit your head on bathroom porcelain on the way down, but if he just wakes shortly after and no injuries then it’s probably just low blood pressure.

As others have said probably bp dropping suddenly because of said reasons. It happened to my DH once when he stood up suddenly from the settee and rushed upstairs to the loo. He promptly collapsed and when I got to him he looked dazed. He was careful how he got up after that. Could always mention it to the GP.
