3 week old newborn

lots!!! of pimples (red rash with pin white spot at centre) all over face around mouth and nose and on eye lids...suddenly appeared in last week..getting worse by day..

is this normal? - so much for a 3 week old - i know of infantile acne but am worried about this sudden outburst...could it be cuz it is hot and skin getting oilier?

simply wash with cotton wool and water or is that maiking it worse and spreading bacteria more around face?

yes! DS got these (think the HV called them milk spots)
warm weather doesn't help - it will clear up though

Sounds normal to me, might be worse with the heat. Avoid baby "bath products" and iirc it is an internal reaction rather than bacterial . If you are ff and it persists beyond a few weeks you may need to reconsider what formula you are using or see gp in case it is eczema. Chances are it will clear up by itself in the meantime.

btw are you on the July postnatal thread - you will probably find others with the same happening to theirs.

If they start oozing yellow stuff, or it they are bothering him,you may need to get a doctor to look at them. Or your health visitor.

Usually they look worse then they are. Normally, they will disappear completely.

They sound like milk spots. My dd3 had them at the same age. They were all over her face and neck. Timed it beautifully to go to a party where she was meeting lots of DH's family for the first time.

They just go, you don't have to do anything. Don't worry.

You can probably find a picture of milk spots on google if you want to compare.

If it helps me DD is 4 weeks old and is getting over them. They can look quite fierce if she is hot and bothered. I'm just topping & tailing her with cooled boiled water still, or bathing her in plain water.

One of my others had them and the HV suggested applying breast milk. It has helped.

sounds just like milk spots all to do with sudden rush of hormones in newborn

but there are loads and now few days on they are still there

he had such nice skin and now looks awful

#am also sure that ones on eyelids causing some swelling in eye

Why not visit your HV, or have a chat over the phone if you're worried?

they go by themselves, promise
you will not have a spotty baby forever
wash with plain water (or squirt with bm if you like)
do not pick or squeeze however tempting.

There was another thread about a very slightly older baby with them www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=49&threadid=370457#7553788. Honestly unless they show signs of infection (angry, weeping) they are normal ask HV or GP to check the one near the eye. It is sad to see their pure skin blighted but should be shortlived. hth

ps: it seems to worsen when he feeds...

how can i check it is not a formula allergy??

esp with the mild wind he keeps getting and the fact he needs feeding with formula every 2 hours or so...

Might be worth just trying a different brand.
Would definitely get a professional opinion though, before you start changing things around too much.
