Visiting Public Toilets Bare Foot With Your Kids - Do You? Would You?

Am just back from Devon and used the public toilets at the beach. Am I a bit old fashioned in thinking it is not healthy to take kids into a public loo with bare feet?

I was in a queue as usual and I would say about half had shoes on and half didn't but I always make my kids put theirs on.

At seaside, I'd do it. Not elsewhere. Reminds me of an email that was sent around all employees at a former workplace of mine in the middle of a heatwave:

"Would staff please refrain from visiting the photocopier and other public areas barefoot as it is not hygenic."

I always make a point of wearing shoes when in any public toilet be it campsite or beach. Hate swimming pool toilets too although it's harder logistically to do the shoe thing.

I don't even use public loos. Well not of the street variety anyway. I will use pub loos if I go in and judge them to be acceptable. Will use restaraunt loos and places like that. But I don't do street loos, carpark loos, theme park loos, portaloos, back alley loos, any loo that opens onto the street. They are invariably the worst type of loo and stink of p*ss ALL the time. If I am double desperate, I find a pub or go in a field if travelling in the car!

BUT if I used public loos, I definitely would go in clad with suitable footwear which covered the whole foot and didn't leave me open to getting particles of wee on my feet. Bit squeamish I think. Afterall, you CAN wash your feet and you don't use them to eat!!!

Yes, we have just rturned from portugal and visited many loos bare foot. In water parks you just don't have your shoes with you. Noone was wearing shoes. I was more concerned about the odd looking seaweed floating in the sea when we went out on pedaloes (sp). Looked like turds to me bt dd and ds still swam - ewwk!

I think toilets on the beach are OK to go in barefoot - go and rinse feet in sea afterwards.

However, I would not ever go in public toilets with DC in places other than the beach barefoot. EUCH!

Well I feel a lot better that I'm not totally bonkers then. The general verdict is shoes on not off in the public lavs.

i went into the loo's at our beach here in sunny devon today, without my flips on and i didn't like it. I had gone up to get a coffee, and dd was being looked after by mate, and i thought oops i need to go.

It wasn't the most pleasant of expereinces. The loo's are well maintained, award winning even, yet i kept thinking, yeuck, god knows what my feet are walking in, but i had to go you know.
