I have just managed to catch up on this thread. OJ I don't know what to say
I lost my friend to a brain tumour and he too was not treated or scanned quickly enough and was sent away from hospital with headaches I still believe he would be here if they had taken it more seriously earlier.
I am thinking of you all xxxxx

WanderingTrolley · 18/08/2007 11:14

Only if the coffee table is dirty and it saves you cleaning it.

Depends how much she knows - awful for you and Steve to have to go through the shock again though, albeit someone else's.

CancerBACUP are very good for talking about 'How to tell people you have cancer' and 'How people may react' - y'know, feelin's and all that.
Good luck.

WanderingTrolley · 18/08/2007 11:19

Just seen the chat thread - sorry I couldn't help, but v glad it is sorted - isn't harpsichordcarrier kind? (and everyone else for googling for you)

Picture is a great idea, too.

Desiderata · 18/08/2007 11:25

I'm so sorry you're having to face this, oj.

One day at a time, eh? I wish you strength and courage ... although I suspect you're already loaded with both.

Chirpygirl · 18/08/2007 11:34

OJ, I haven't posted before as I didn't know what to say apart from I am so sorry for what you are going through, but I wish you luck with telling his mum.
DH's bro had to have an operation on his spine/base of brain last year (a benign tumour) and in the weeks before they didn't tell his grandma, but when they eventually did she was relieved as she said she knew something was wrong and would rather have known than not IYSWIM.
I don't know if that will even help but I still hope today goes okay, have fun with the kids and buy yourself something frivilous (sp?!)

LilyLoo · 18/08/2007 14:59

OJ just wanted to send Steve strength and courage in telling his mum today. I think about you all often and wish there was something more we could do to help. I think telling his mum will be a major step in him ccepting and coming to terms with things. If there really is anything practical you could do with let us know.
What a lovely thing with the hamper [smile
Have you made any nice plans or the next 3 weeks yet?

onlyjoking9329 · 18/08/2007 16:17

Steves mum came over with his sister, i had taken the kids out so they had time alone.
Steve has told them.

gess · 18/08/2007 16:19

oh OJ How have they taken it, I hope they will be helpful. Still thinking of you......

onlyjoking9329 · 18/08/2007 16:22

They were very thoughtful looking and they stayed for 4 hours Steves mum has agreed to have the kids overnight very soon so that i can book somewhere nice for myself and steve.

OP posts:
gess · 18/08/2007 16:23

it must be a relief for him to have told them. Hope you get your night out soon....

GrandMasterHumphreyLyttelton · 18/08/2007 16:24

Sounds like it went as well as it could have, IYSWIM.

God bless Steve's mum for babysitting.

onlyjoking9329 · 18/08/2007 16:36

i think we may go to the peacock hotel in rowsley, or the new bath hotel matlock, can't travel too far from hospital

OP posts:
WanderingTrolley · 18/08/2007 16:37

I don't know that part of the world but I v much hope the hotel is v posh!

onlyjoking9329 · 18/08/2007 16:42

i think the peacock is posh, do you think they will let steve in wearing a baseball hat? i went to the new bath hotel a few months back with some friends and it was nice, a spa and an outdoor pool.

OP posts:
mummydoit · 18/08/2007 18:39

I should think if you have a quiet word beforehand and explain the circumstances, they'll not only let Steve in with a baseball cap but bend over backwards to make sure you have a good stay.

Eddas · 18/08/2007 19:17

I don't normally look on any threads to do with cancer as I find it too hard to read and just reminds me of my mum

OJ (and mummydoit) I just wanted to say that i am thinking of you This disease is so so cruel

onlyjoking9329 · 18/08/2007 19:26

Steve is on the phone to his brother right now, telling him the full story before his mum does.
we have some friends bringing a take away round tonight. they are our best friends.
we may open the chocolate hamper with them.
we may not

Nemo2007 · 18/08/2007 22:15

OJ I am glad he has told them at least to save you some trauma later. How are you all doing today?

callmeovercautious · 18/08/2007 22:19

Hi OJ Hope you had a great time with your friends. I have a story I hope will make you smile:

I just read your post from Thursday about the woman in the coffee shop and it made me remember being very PG with SPD. I was in the line at Tesco with a big basket of shopping and telling myself I should have got a trolley. Was last Summer in that very hot weather, had been on my feet at work all day etc. Just got to the bit where I could put it down and a mans voice behind me says "God my back hurts" and he rammed my basket away and put his down instead. I turned around to see a young guy with about 3 things in his basket...... Just then some mad woman (me ) turns around and shouts at the top of voice "and I'm 9 months pregnant, now move your FU*ING basket you D*K" Needless to say he did!

I have never been so ashamed and the girls in the shop still refer to me as "the shouty fat bird!"

fransmom · 18/08/2007 22:21

callmeovercautious good for you,

that man shouldve been ashamed of himself. he has no idea about bad abcks
