How to remove a deep splinter?

I have managed to get quite a large splinter stuck in the base of my big toe. I have tried a needle, scissors and tweezers, soaking my foot as well as plasters over a 72 hour period and it won't budge!

Are there any other tried and tested methods that I am missing?? Any suggestions appreciated.

Magnesium sulphate was very good cos it just dries it all out and seems to make the skin shrink back so you can see what's going on.

At least you're digging in your own skin

Thanks PeachesMcLean - I will definitely give the maganesium sulphate and plaster a try. A trip to the chemist first thing for me tomorrow then
