Foul Bitter taste in mouth, worse on an evening, what is it?

For about four days I’ve had a really bitter taste in my mouth on an evening, it starts about 6pm, everything including water tastes like it’s got washing up liquid in it, no soapy taste just bitter, I pinched a sun dried tomato off my sons pizza earlier and it tasted like sour and bitter not sweet. It’s driving me mad, I’ve looked on line,I’m 47 and might be a menopause symptom ... is this the start? ☹️ Has anyone else experienced the same ? X

Acid reflux? Google GERD and see if it sounds familiar

Nononoandno · 02/09/2019 23:57

Hi thanks for your reply, it doesn’t feel like acid,so no heart burn or indigestion sensations, I can’t notice it when I’m not drinking or eating anything. I’ve been waking up with a dry and slightly sore throat in a morning, I will buy some antiseptic mouth wash and see if that helps, it’s actually helping me diet, even my favourite ice cream tastes foul 😎

Have you eaten pine nuts recently?

Synecdoche · 03/09/2019 00:04

I get this with foliate deficiency.

Apileofballyhoo · 03/09/2019 00:06

I was going to ask if you had a sore throat...

Nononoandno · 03/09/2019 00:40

I’ve not eaten pinenuts that I recall, tbh my diet hasnt been great recently so I will get back into healthy eating starting tomorrow morning, I’m also feeling run down like I’m fighting an infection too, keep needing to swallow due to dry throat.

Could be a sinus issue? I find it’s worse as the day goes on.

Or it could be reflux - you can have the acid taste without heartburn.

RuffleCrow · 03/09/2019 18:17

Thrush?

Aaarrgghhh · 03/09/2019 18:41

I’d just see the GP if possible or even a pharmacist and get them to check.

Are you on a low carb diet? Going into ketosis can cause dry mouth / bad breath / change in taste and smell of food and loss of appetite.

Nononoandno · 03/09/2019 23:09

I’ve not been on a ketosis diet, what is weird I’ve not had it today then I remembered up to yesterday I was taking a different thyroid medication as I had run out of the regular one (scratched around in a drawer and found some a different brand that were prescribed in error once) from today I’m back on regular tablet and bingo no bitter taste, thanks everyone xx
