Sore skin around nose (picture)

This is such a minor but yet very painful and annoying issue. I have little sore cracks around my nose and sometimes inside. I have used and tried everything: Vaseline, oils, ointments, Epaderm, mouth ulcer creams and gels, acyclovir, antifungal creams, antiseptic creams and solutions, chlorhexidine and God knows what else. Pharmacist sent me to a GP, GP cannot suggest anything else. What am I missing? I have had enough of these Sad I used to take multivitamins, am I just deficient of smth? Has anyone experienced this? I'm so fed up Sad

It looks more like a fissure to me. There is a condition called nasal vestibulitis. Has this one been ruled out? Have you tried an antibiotic topical cream? Or at last resort, a course of antibiotics?

NavyBerry · 02/09/2019 14:29

@LiliesAndChocolate thank you! I did had a swab from my nose and it didn't show anything (I'm not sure it would though). During this year I had to take antibiotics at least three times for unconnected reasons and it didn't help with my nose. It is awful Sad it does look like a crack that doesn't heal

Have you had your bloods taken? you might have something else going on and this is an seemingly obscure symptom.

BusterGonad · 02/09/2019 16:17

I mention this (above) as I have IBD and my list of symptoms NOT involving my bowels was/is endless.

moreismore · 02/09/2019 16:18

I get this as constant runny nose with allergies. Lansinoh applies religiously helps...

BusterGonad · 02/09/2019 16:23

Bepanthen is my go to for any cracks and sores on my face.

NavyBerry · 02/09/2019 19:39

@BusterGonad thank you! Bepanthen didn't help. My general blood test came back OK but it doesn't really show vitamins deficiency or hormonal problems if any. I don't know what else to check and the doctor is of no helpSad

@moreismore thank you! I have used Purelan but with no success

Sorry bit ignorant about the drugs you listed as having tried, but are any for mouth sores? I get sore on the outside of my nose sometimes and goggles and someone recommended trying cold sore cream with success!

moreismore · 02/09/2019 20:06

Cold sore cream is a good idea.
Also I would be suspicious of B12 deficiency so you could try supplementing that.

NavyBerry · 02/09/2019 20:24

@moreismore thank you! I got myself Vitamins B Complex the other day from Boots. Fingers crossed it will work. I remember having this problem back in January and I cannot believe I still haven't found a solution

I used to get this. It was an overgrowth of staph infection in my nose. A cream called Naseptin cured it.

efeslight · 02/09/2019 20:32

You could try Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream. I use it on all my sores it helps to heal my skin very quickly

healthylifestylee · 02/09/2019 20:35

One to second the Elizabeth Arden cream. However in regard to vitamin deficiency's most of the uk will be generally lower in vitamin d and We could all benefit from taking some supplements

Edda09 · 02/09/2019 20:48

Have you tried Lansinoh overnight? I often get a sore inside my nose and it's always worked for me.

BusterGonad · 03/09/2019 02:00

Op, I had a sore up one nostril a few years back, it felt like crusty boogie (gross) that you wanted to pick out but it wouldn't budge and brought tears to my eyes just to touch it, the doctor thought it might staphylococcus or MRSA so he prescribed some cream to put on it and it went away. He didn't swab it or any thing we just tried the cream first as an elimination process.

NavyBerry · 03/09/2019 09:28

@BusterGonad thank you! I do tend to think it is bacterial even though the swab came clear. The problem is MRSA is a super bug and so hard to get rid off. I must be resistant to everything 🤦‍♀️ I have tried most popular skin antibiotics creams and they don't seem to work.

I’m following this as I have exactly the same issue and have also had it since Jan! I’m using fucidin cream which does kind of clear it but it comes back as soon as I stop using it. My gp is also at a loss after several treatments and a swab. It’s a pain in the backside. Mine healed up temporarily when I was in Portugal at the beginning of the summer for a few days but came back almost as soon as I was home.

NavyBerry · 03/09/2019 09:48

@Myusernameisunique oh I feel your pain! It is terrible. This time it is more on the outside of my nose but when it is in a nostril it makes me cry. I have got myself all kinds of vitamins and supplements. I keep using Triderm and trying not to touch it. I really hope that smth will help eventually

Could it be something you are eating or drinking, like the steam going up your nose and irritating it? Maybe air freshener or Josh sticks? Do you smoke or vape? Could it be a lipstick you are using, I know that sounds crazy but if I use a lip product I'm sensitive to then I get very dry skin around my mouth and nose. What about stuff you wash your pillows in? Or shampoo running down onto your face in the shower? Do you remove hair on your top lip, if yes could what ever you use be upsetting your nose? Its so difficult and frustrating.

Myusernameisunique · 03/09/2019 10:36

I know me too! I’m going to ask go to refer to dermatology I think. I’m so scared it’ll spread to the rest of my face! Best of it is it seems the healthier living I am the worse it gets! Can’t really be connected but it all started when I went on a bit of a health kick, cut out alcohol, started eating better etc. The minute I went to Portugal and ate and drank my body weight it cleared up! Want too bad over the school holidays when diet and fitness wasn’t the best but it’s getting worse and worse these past few weeks that I’m again living a healthier lifestyle!
