Horrendous period pain years after clip sterilisation and Novasure ablation

I have horrendous period pain, bloating and exhaustion, my eyes look dead and I have no energy. I feel like I did when I had periods years ago. All I can do is sleep it off which is a waste of the day!
I had clip sterilisation and Novasure ablation in 2016 without any issues, not had a period since.
I'm 44 and sadly due to DH's terminal illness we haven't had sex for a year so I'm definitely not pregnant.
I know this will pass, but I'm loathe to see GP as I've been previously told to take paracetamol for it.
Any ideas what would get rid of this, a hysterectomy for example?

Hello, I was the same as you, I ended up with a hysterectomy, im 36, I kept the ovaries, but tubes, cervix & uterus removed, I had both the ablation and the clips, unfortunately the clips failed, one had migrated and the other had both been clipped to my tube & nicked hold of the surrounding ligaments causing pain pretty much every day, only discovered this after my surgeon told me post surgery,
I'm only 6 weeks post surgery but so far I still have some ache when I would have a 'period' and ovulation time, im hoping this eases as I heal, Im sorry about your husband x

I have really terrible, virtually disabling pain for seven-ten days a month post ablation. Not just at period time, really badMy consultant has now agreed that I can have a hysterectomy.

However I am recently divorced and don’t see how I can have one logistically so I have opted to try naproxen - it works - I only have to take one a day when it’s bad (keeping me awake at night bad) and it works. It does seem to have messed up my cycle though. Gone from v v regular to all over the place, no periods, random spotting.

I think the pain post ablation is a known thing sadly.

How long ago did you have your ablation?

Two years ago. The pain became a problem after about eight months. What I should have typed, not sure what happened there 🤷🏻‍♀️. Was that the pain is actually worse around ovulation, for five days. It wakes me up at night.

My consultant recently offered me something to induce menopause (a drug used for prostrate cancer), to make sure it is what we think it is before surgery but I have decided against the surgery.

Risk vs benefit at my age (51), plus the logistics mean I have decided to carry on with the naproxen.

When you say clips do you mean essure? Because if so this method is known to cause problems.

If not, you say "period pain" but is it different to your usual pain in quality at all? It clearly is in severity.

Just, I'm wondering if it could possibly be you're suffering from an ovarian torsion that just happens to be coinciding with your period.

I've had that and it's very similar initially to period pain but as it worsens differs in quality and severity.

Or possibly a cyst causing problems.

I'm not sure, I was shown them, little tiny coated clips that looked a bit like crocodile clips?
I didn't mention I'm really bloated as well during these times and have many, many visits to the loo, I'm half expecting to see period blood there, as the pain is so similar to what it was when I had them.
I've made an appointment at GP so hopefully they'll have an idea what it might be or if it's clips or twists or whatever.

So are you having pain but no bleeding? Definitely see a dr as a matter of urgency then!

I'm going to see GP tomorrow, but as I haven't had a period for years it's just all weird, will see what he says! The clips didn't look like that, they're like tiny crocodile clips!

Are they Filshie clips op? This is what I've had. I can't say I've had problems as drastic as you since having mine, but I do have horrendous pain in my left hip and thigh on the first day of my period every month (not sure if it's related, so keeping an eye on your thread)

Just to add, on googling an image of the clips, there are pages and pages of protest sites/ groups demanding these are banned (I didn't realise they were so controversial- not sure about anyone else but I wasn't offered any other form of sterilisation from my consultant, only Filshie clips) xx

I've to go back for blood tests tomorrow then I'll get a scan to see what is going on, it's been pretty debilitating & painful today!

Bloods came back with markers for T125 (I think it was called). Had a pelvic and kidney scan today.

CA125 it was.

My CA125 blood test was through the roof pink, it was ‘just’ massive fibroids.

Not really at the minute, the post ablation pain has been excruciating for the last week as I haven’t taken naproxen.

Point to note about CA125. My GP made me worry, a lot. My consultant was actually really cross when I told him what my GP had said. CA125 is not a reliable marker for anything sinister in women pre menopause.

It can be high in all sorts of pelvic inflammation situations, endometriosis, fibroids, all sorts of things. Rarely anything to worry about in women of our age.

It was something I asked him to check for, mainly because due to DH's condition there are pamphlets, leaflets and books from Macmillan etc around the house, they're always something I notice, they're just there. It was on my mind, so he said they'd do the test to rule it out.

Thanks pink. I might just need to take the pills. I was giving not taking them a go as my cycle (28 days to the minute) seems to have gone all over the place since I started using Naproxen.

TMI but I have had a very odd period for almost three weeks, lots of pain, old brown blood for two weeks and then a proper period. It started about ten days after my last one, sort of at ovulation time. I just wanted to see what happened without Naproxen but have really been suffering.

My gynaecologist was running 2 hours late in his clinic last week and I couldn’t wait as I had to collect DD so am now not seeing him for two months.

I might have to see my GP (also a gynaecologist) if it doesn’t settle down next week.

Fingers massively crossed for you, are there any earlier appointments that they could get for you?

Well scan has come back showing an ovarian cyst, nothing menacing thank all the little sky pixies and whoever. Been referred to Gynae now, and will see what's going on.
