cs scar - should it be "flat"?

I had a cs almost a year ago and the scar is still pretty raised, a bit like having a thin shoelace across my skin, and still quite red. Is this normal? Will it be like this forever or go flat and white at some stage and can I do anything about it? I do remember the surgeon telling me to use bio oil on it, but didn't quite manage it in the new baby mayhem... Advice gratefully received!

You can still use the bio oil now, it does work even on old scars. (DH did this with a scar on his face which he had got when he was a child!) my scar is still raised a bit and I had my cs 8.3 years ago although it is white now. I had never thought of using bio oil on it, I would of thought that it would never go completly flat.

Thanks floopowder, have got some bio oil sitting unused in the bathroom cabinet so will crack it open!
