for a tickly cough please! It's driving me mental, especially at night. I've tried the cough syrups and I'm now having a hot toddy. Anymore for anymore?

gargle with lukewarm salt water
add two teaspoons of honey in a glass of lukewarm water with a teaspoon of lemon juice and drink

that nightnurse stuff is great too, although its not a home remedy!

warm milk with honey
an hour before bedtime
sleep propped up so that you can breather easier

Georgiemcgeorgeface · 20/08/2019 20:34

I read recently that a few squares bars of chocolate can help. Haven't tried it myself though so can't confirm if it's true but certainly can't hurt. Hope you feel better soon

Homemade elderberry syrup. Berries soaked in port, rum, honey and nutmeg. Good time of year to make a batch.

Wiltshirelass2019 · 20/08/2019 20:45

Fresh pineapple juice is much better than cough syrup

Cumberlover76 · 20/08/2019 20:47

Grate lots of ginger root into a jug and pour over boiling water. Leave to steep for a few mins. Strain and add honey, and lemon too if you like, to taste. Have the ginger as strong as you can handle. It helps to stop coughing. I would have one before bed and leave a cup of it beside my bed in case I wake up coughing and then drink it cold in the night. I find it works really well. I have the ginger super strong so it makes me sweat! Ginger info

Milk and dairy can aggravate a cough for some people so try to avoid it for a couple of days and see if it works.
Ginger, honey and lemon instead and gargle with salt water.

Oo some great ones thanks. Berries and port sounds a treat! Never heard the pineapple but I'll buy some tomorrow and I reckon the chocolate might be a go-er! Thanks for the info on ginger I'd never have thought of that

Lump of real butter mashed with a spoonful of sugar. Let it melt in your mouth and trickle down your throat.

Randomly I found cocodamol helped. Read somewhere that codine stopped it and it worked within a day. Also fishermans friend helps
