Green Poos

Are they normal in a baby. My sister is getting concerned. Her child is three months old. Has changed its sleeping pattern, waking up more often. Dribbling. Crying. I said she is teething and that also effects your poo.
She has rang back and is still not happy with this answer, anybody got other theories to ease her mind. TIA

FF, I think that green poo is normal and for the reasons you state, DS is 4 months and has odd days when it changes colour - it could also be something I've eaten . . . but he doesn't seem upset by it and my midwife wasn't fussed when I mentioned it. I understand it can also be something to do with the balance of foremilk and hindmilk if she is BF little one.

Dr Jack Newman a leading speacialist says on green poos.... wear sungalsses if you don't like the colour of your child's poos !
(The only exception would be if baby was NOT feeding - then green poos are an issue)

sorry a leading specialist on BF of course not on green poos

Has she got a cold? my theory is that babies can't blow their noses so they swallow all the excess mucus and it makes their poo green - this happened to dd when she had a cold as a young baby. as pupuce said, as long as she is still feeding and doesn't have a worrying temperature it's fine, although you can get a chest rub for babies.

Another green poo + breastfeeding thread (i.e. it may not be a cold but it is very normal and there may not be any problem at all) are here:
