Thought I'd start a new thread for us all.

gothicmama and Mammya - how's it going??

Everyone else ready for tomorrow?? I washed my dressing gown today (no I haven't flipped - I wear it in the mornings when I go out for my first ciggie of the day.....or should I say I used to....so it was smelling of smoke). It's all nice and clean. Tomorrow I shall wash my summer jacket as that reeks.

Got 5 cigarettes left which I shall probably finish tonight (hate throwing things away , planning on a Vodka and Apple Juice (or 2 ) this evening and I'll smoke my last cigarettes with them.

I'm on very friendly terms with most of the people that work in the local shop (where I usually bought my ciggies) and today I told the ones that were working NOT to serve me ciggies anymore, and I shall tell the others as I see them.

The next closest place I can buy them is Morrisons, which closes at 8pm (so I can't pop down after DH gets home from work - local shop doesn't close until 11pm so I can) and is a good 10 minutes walk away. I figured if they won't sell me my ciggies then I'm not going to be very inclined to traipse down to Morrisons for them - well that's the theory

be strong Queenie!

mosschops30 · 05/08/2007 16:07

ah glad its not just me

I was fine and had gone all day til dh came home from fishing bradishing mackeral and said 'how about a nice BBQ with a bottle of wine and a smoke' we had a bit of a row and the poor thing thought it was tomorrow not today!!!

So have had one, but reckon if it wasnt for the BBQ I would have been fine, hadnt really thought about it much today and planned to come home and do a sunday dinner etc, so no drinking involved or sitting out the garden!

I am going to finish Allan Carr tonight and start tomorrow afresh.

Sorry I feel like a bit of a failure but tomorrow will be better as I am going to my mums so no opportunity to smoke, no other smokers etc.

TheQueenOfQuotes · 05/08/2007 16:09

lets just take it one day at a time moss - we might have fallen off the wagon today - but only the once....how many would you usually have smoked by this time in the day???

OP posts:
mosschops30 · 05/08/2007 16:47

same as you probably about 4 or 5 maybe. We will try again tomorrow

mammya · 06/08/2007 13:57

How are you doing today so far guys?

I didn't smoke yesterday despite some strong cravings so I am rather pleased. Poor dd had to bear the brunt of my bad mood though... I had to apologise to her as I was very unfair to her...

Today I am at work so it is easier, will see how it goes tonight...

gothicmama · 06/08/2007 19:44

you are all doing really well I have had two yesterday and the same again today but hey it is better than before and having permission to makes it easier, I have not really had any cravings so this approach may work on a positive note dh has cut down too so not too bad

TheQueenOfQuotes · 06/08/2007 19:47

did really well until about 3pm when I dropped in on a friend who I haven't seen for a few months (used to work with her) after getting DS3 weighed.....I then completely cracked and had several cups of coffee.......with a cigarette with each one.

Mind you I haven't had one since - I definitely think the "permission" to have one seems to work - as I'm definitely smoking fewer than usual. hopefully will manage to get through the rest of the evening without one - got a busy "schedule" (ie all the housework I should have done when I was at a friends house gossping LOL)

When I gave up I used to pound the streets looking at people not smoking thinking 'hey, they're not smoking and still smiling'. That helped quite a bit...

Until that is I gave birth to ds and then mil came at 4 weeks stayed for 3 weeks, and along with husband, made my life such hell that my breast milk dried up and now I'm back to square one!!!!!

Truestar · 07/08/2007 00:15

I have been smoking for 15 yrs almost... I stopped using nothing which I never thought would ever happen.. the dr put me on zyban which made me really ill and I was still smoking so I stopped the tablets and on the same day stopped smoking.. 5 weeks on and the cravings just appeared.. I then just had "the one" and now 3 days on im back to almost 20.. GOD KNOWS WHY!!! I know i have stopped once and it wasnt so bad.. yet now.. im telling myself (like before) stopping would be so hard.. its amazing how the mind works! though i really DO want to stop.

mumsville · 07/08/2007 14:09

truestar

I feel the same. I found it easy the first time - I even stopped before my quit date and didn't use the patches that much as I thought they acted like a placebo.

But it takes a lot of energy to give up and I'm trying to muster up that energy again.

I hear good things about the new drug that's prescription only. Anyone tried it?

Truestar · 07/08/2007 17:15

do you mean champix? my dad took it (he had been smoking nearly 45 yrs) and yeah he stopped way before he was meant to stop taking the tablets, he had no side effects from the tablets or from stopping.. I have asked my GP for the same and was told that the local Health Authority wont authorise the prescription unless you have an illness which is made worse by smoking, my dad has diabetes.

mosschops30 · 08/08/2007 16:58

Hi hows everyone doing?? Its very quiet on this thread I hope youre not all out the garden smoking

I'm day 3 now yay, gave up sunday night as planned, have to admit its been much easier being at my mums cos I was out of my normal routine. Also finished reading Allen Carr which has helped because every time I fancy a fag I just think how wonderful it is to not smoke and how lovely i must look (ok I treated myself to some more botox too)

But its all good, have been to the gym 3 times and my chest pains have gone already.

Come on girls you can do it let me know how everyone is getting on

fawkeoff · 08/08/2007 17:00

hi can i join in please????? havent had a fag since saturday.......am not using any nicotine replacement, just my willpower.not finding it that bad today but it does vary

mosschops30 · 08/08/2007 17:20

hi fawkeoff of course you can and well done for being fag free since saturday!!!
How you finding it? I'm finding it much easier just doing an hour or so at a time saying to myself 'ok i fancy a fag, if I still want one in an hour I'll go and get some' and of course I never do, so far so good

fawkeoff · 08/08/2007 17:25

im finding a lot easier than i thought i would actually........especially with it being the holidays so ive got dd and ds to tend to all day.....have cut out brew and biscuit times as i always want a ciggie after and ive got loads of polos and halls sweets to be sucking on.....Dp has stopped too so its a double whammy and im surprised that we havent killed each other yet

mosschops30 · 09/08/2007 13:31

God I am a lone non-smoker in the dark ....where have you all gone this thread (and the other one) was flowing when we were just thinking about it, what happened??

mammya · 09/08/2007 13:46

Fear not Mosschops, I am still here and still not smoking!
How are you doing? Are you finding it hard?

For me it's not so bad when I am at work, but at home in the evenings, that's when the cravings really hit...

fakeblonde · 09/08/2007 15:36

Hi guys,
well i never gave up on Sun as planned, but reading this thread has inspired me again.I have 2 days off now, which wouldnt be a good idea-would rather tackle the first few days when im busy anyway, so it`s sat here for me.
Am working straight thro to Thurs pm but off Mon by which time i hope to have quit for 2 full days anyway.
well done to all of you-wish i was as far as you are now !

mosschops30 · 09/08/2007 16:01

well done mammya, how many days is that for you now?
I'm doing ok, I did get a whiff of a fag today in the park and felt a bit nostalgic but the way I am feeling far outweighs having another fag. I actually feel well again, exercising regularly and back to my old self.

I'm actually quite enjoying being a non smoker (Allen Carr brainwashed me ) have not used anything.

come on fakeblonde you can do it are you using NRT or just doing willpower, have you read Allen Carr, didnt work for me first time but Ive read it this time and its sunk in

fakeblonde · 09/08/2007 16:30

I used the nicorette inhalator last time, but i might nip out and buy this book tomoorow too.Sounds good.

mosschops30 · 09/08/2007 16:32

Well its been great for me this time, he actually disagrees with NRT so I have been cold-turkey since sunday night, and its been pretty good. You could get it from the library save you forking out the dosh
Good luck let us know how youre getting on

fawkeoff · 09/08/2007 16:33

today has been a total nightmare for me!!!!! i have no patience with no-one today and i really feel like cramming 50 fags in my mouth and lightin em all up........havent done tho

mosschops30 · 09/08/2007 16:38

just think fawke if you did that whatever is getting on your nerves would still be there, nothing would change, and that fag would taste like shite

fawkeoff · 10/08/2007 10:10

feeling much better today.......soooo glad o resisted in going to the shop for ciggies,am resigning to the fact thati may need a little more than will power, thinking of buying the 2mg lozenges instead of the 4mg as they are way too strong for me

mosschops30 · 10/08/2007 18:21

must be sumthin in the air fawke. I have had a hard day today, i think because i cleaned the house and i love goin out for that fag in between doing upstairs and downstairs. I deffo still need to take one day at a time, I'm still on dodgy ground.

Wonder when this feeling stops?
