White noise machine is it any different to playing sounds off the web/phone through a bluetooth speaker?

Hi all,

I have been reading threads about this on reddit where a lot of people have recommended various white noise machines.

Living on a noisy street, I have a bluetooth speaker set up connected to an ipad and I play soothing nature sounds etc from youtube videos or apps.

I was considering buying some dedicated white noise machines, just seen they are on wowcher where I have some credits to spend and probably groupon too.

Thing is, I can't get to the bottom of if they are any different to just playing an app or a youtube video through speakers?

I'm guessing the white noise machines play specific frequencies and are more scientific then just using a phone or ipad? Then again it could be the same thing??

I'm not that scientifically minded and didn't want to buy them when I have an old ipad/iphone that can do the job?

If I did buy one I'm guessing the cheaper ones might be similar to using a phone/ipad and speaker and the more expensive ones probably have more unique/bespoke features.

Currently listening to 'Rain and Thunder sounds in the foggy forrest' on youtube , the associated video of rain droplets is quite relaxing too.

I just use iPad for DD. We do have a white noise machine but it doesn't have the exact pitch she likes (pink noise) so now I just use the iPad and it works fine. I suppose sound quality might be worse than with a dedicated player but I can't say I notice. The app I use has loads more options than the white noise machine too.

I used a mobile white noise app with my 2 boys and it worked a treat on me as well. Try downloading some before shelling out
