says it all really - yesterday my right eye really hurt, but very localised, not "in" the eye but on the inner lower rim.

today it has become red
and now i think a spot or similar is developing.
i've pulled out a few eyelashes around it thinking it may have been an ingrown eyelash, but it has only made it more tender.

i will try and see the GP tomorrow, but in the meantime, any advice out there?

Sorry, I know it's late, but read your post too quickly and thought it read "I seem to be getting a style"

oooh no, not me!

and yes, this morning a big spot on the lower rim... squeezed it with tweezers [ouch] so it has gone down a bit but the area is still very sore and tender.

do i need to see the doctor or will it just go by itself now that it's come out?

Don't squeeze it!! Or touch it - you'll just spread the infection.
Dilute salt in warm water and bath your eye - it will sting, but it really helps. Also, get yourlsef some golden eye ointment (specially for styes) - not sure if you need a prescription.

golden eye ointment from chemist is good

Tinker · 03/08/2007 11:52

Rub it with a gold ring.

Desiderata · 03/08/2007 11:58

It's not really a GP thing, amidaiwish. He'll only refer you to the chemist.

Golden Eye treatment from the chemist should do it. But the underlying cause could be dietary. Are you eating enough green vegetables at the moment?

Rub the area with a solid gold ring, it reduces the swelling!! My grandad always swore by it.

I had several styes last year which went but then i had more and 2 on my left eye and 1 on the right never went, despite antibiotic creams .So i had to have them cut out, still waiting for the other eye to be done.
If it doesn't go see your GP.

flumpybumpy · 03/08/2007 12:45

Rub it with it with a copper coin always works for me!!!

thanks everyone!
will get to the chemist for some golden eye ointment, it has gone down quite a bit (after my tweezer session...) but worried now it might spread.
