HELP ! Constipated baby

Need help quick!

DD is 9.5 weeks old - very hungry baby so HV suggested trying her on Plus Milk - she has been on this since Saturday.
Noticed yesterday her nappies were not the same as usual, quite hard stools as aposed to the usual running muck.

She is now straining so hard her face is purple and she is crying her eyes out.

What can i do, have tried rubbing her tummy and lifting her legs up whilst she is straining but this doesn't seem to be helping.

Maybe some warm water in a bottle and let her kick on the floor for a while to get things moving?
Oh and go back to whatever milk you were giving her?

There was a thread on this a few days ago.

HV suggested to me (and it worked) - cooled boiled water with a drop of fresh orange in (really, just a few drops).

Also, while she is trying to poo, lie her down and hold her legs up like you do when you are changing her.

HTH - it's horrible when they are constipated and you feel helpless

agree with cab, try some cooled, boiled water and change back to your previous brand. The constipation is probably due to the increased iron content.

Thanks all, she has just doesed off now! Must've worm herself out, the poor little mite!

Well defo give the cool boiled water with orange juice a try.
Thanks again.

Springchicken a bath might help too.

SpringChicken · 20/09/2004 10:20

God Ca, NO, my life wouldn't be worth living if i put her in the bath on top of her having a tummy ache - She absolutely hates it!

Thanks for the suggestion though

I had exactly the same problem with my DD when I moved her up to Plus Milk.

I agree with littlemissbossy - put her back on her old brand and just increase ounces and number of bottles. My DD was always ahead of what the box suggested (in terms of number of feeds) and is now a very tall 3.5yr old!

SpringChicken · 20/09/2004 10:39

Thanks Jude, DD was on 7 oz but health visito suggested instead of putting her up to 8oz to just try her on the plus milk.
Going to knock that on the head now though, will put her up to 8oz on normal milk.

She is only have 4 bottles in a day now so does 8oz sound about right?

try tummy massage in clockwise direction, and move the legs in a cycling motion.

i read this on a previos thread and tried and it worked!

mears · 20/09/2004 17:30

Definately put he back on her usual milk. If she takes 4 bottles, does she go for long spells in between? Could you offer her feeds closer together if she needs more than 8 oz at a feed?

Oooggs · 20/09/2004 17:31

A few drops of prune juice (tinned but in natural juices) in 4oz of water and it was INSTANT for DS
