Postpartum vaginal itching

I had my baby 10 days ago and have been suffering for the last few days with vaginal itching. Is this a cause for concern do you think?

You had a baby ten days ago.

10 days ago you pushed an infant through there.

Itching?!!!

No, prob nothing more than the poor thing in shock! When do midwives stop visiting? Ask them or hv, but I bet it's just recovering!

It's going to feel odd in many ways from now on!

Ask MW when she visits

I don't remember this happening with any of my three - but then I don't remember feeling anything down there for a couple of weeks!

I had this on and off for quite a while after having dd - it was eased by hydrocortisone and canestan cream from the doctor who thought it might be due to hormonal changes associated with breast feeding. Probably right as it didn't go away until dd was weaned and bfs cut down to a few a day.

Have now been discharged by midwife - should I see my GP? Lochia a little whiffy too - not horrendous, but smelly after only an hour or so of a new pad.

I had thrush after giving birth to dd2. I treated it with an eight day course of canestan cream iirc. I initially thought it was the stiches, but it was definitely thrush

I was the same as belgo - thought it was the stitches but it was thrush that cleared up with a Diflucan (which apparently you can take while bfing even though the leaflet says not).

belgo · 02/08/2007 19:57

I think I used diflucan, I really can't remember exactly.

I thought I had thrush after dd1, but it turned out to be a bacterial infection - noticable by whiffiness - go to GP and get a swab done. You can get something from them like a giant cotton bud that you stick up yourself and then put in a test tube so your GP doesn't need to go near you. HTH.
