Feeling frightened: I have 2 lumps in my neck on one side only

Morning. Can anyone please offer me any reassurance about these two smallish lumps in my neck whilst I'm waiting for gp appointment? They're on one side and are not visibly noticeable. Gp wants to give it 3 weeks before she sees me. The thing is, I remember feeling them there ages ago but can't remember when, maybe December, maybe a year ago. So to me they've been there a while. Although obviously they could be going up and down like they're supposed to.

I'm feeling very run down and sneezing occasionally, but certainly not ill. Obviously Google says I have cancer. I'm off on holiday and don't want to ruin it by worrying. Any knowledgeable people out there?

DH had a very similar thing, after lots of worry and a biopsy turned out they were inflamed lymph glands.

The consultant said they often swell when there's an infection and sometimes stay enlarged.

One of his is still enlarged years later but it's nothing to worry about. I bet your GP wants to see if they go down on their own.

Have a lovely holiday.

Where exactly on your neck? It might be your glands. Mine often swell on one side when I'm poorly. I find them by putting my fingers in front on my ear and then moving them straight down to about an inch below my jawline.

The GP always suggest to wait three weeks as if its infection the lumps go down. My OH has just been diagnosed with throat cancer after finding a lump at the side of his neck. It was only one lump though and he felt it when he was shaving. Best to always get these things checked. Don't google as you will scare yourself!

It does sound like lymph glands to me, so please don't worry.

I have two hardish lumps behind one ear, which are swollen lymph nodes -- part of an immune response to some medical treatment I'm having. There are other lymph nodes around the neck area too that can become swollen.

I'm not a medical professional, so do follow up with your doc in three weeks as the doc has suggested. But I just wanted to reassure you that you don't need to fear anyhting bad while you wait

Thanks. It's the two that come down from the ear I think, not the under neck ones that came up when I had tonsillitis.

I'm worried that they've been up for at least 3 weeks now and potentially 6 months to a year. Plus there's always someone who it's meant cancer for.

aweedropofsancerre, sorry to hear about your OH.

Hi, just to update after seeing the gp this morning. He says he thinks it's nothing of concern but has referred me under the 2 week wait as he says it's best not to hang around with things like this.
