Umbilical hernia?

I wondered if anyone has experience of this?

DS2's belly button was a concern when he was tiny as it didn't seem to be healing well...but was fine after about 2 weeks.

yesterday it seemed to be sticking out more than usual, looking like an 'outy' ! But I noticed it now looks red and is maybe swollen too.

Could it be a hernia? He's 7 weeks tomorrow. I'm just concerned about the redness and swelling.

Tia xx

get him to docs if you are worried, they have to refer him within 2 weeks if it is. My Lo had a hernia but in his bowel not his tummy button. was operated on at 4 months old and he was fine. We found his cos he had a hard lump in his testes, thought he was a bit young for it to be anything else!

My niece has a belly button hernia and is having a op later this week. She has had it from birth and is now 9mths old.It doesn't bother her at all.Her belly button its self is fine, but the hernia makes it stick out about a inch and is about the size of a 50p.like this. She is a heathy little girl in every other way.

Oh, thanks so much girls, that's very reassuring...he was crying a bit earlier and it kept getting bigger, I felt it and could gently push it back 'in' between cries...but I kept thinking he might burst or something! Poor little mite.

Have got Docs appt this afternoon, will let you know how we go

Any news flightattendant. From what you were saying about pushing it back in it sould like a hernia.Doc told my sil to put her dd on her tummy as much has possible.

Hi, yes, just got back. It is a 'tiny' little hernia, which ought to resolve itself in the first year or so...he gave me cream to use in case it's a little bit infected where it's red, but wasn't worried...thank goodness!
I didn't know about putting them on their tummies, thankyou...my elder son used to always prefer that way (had to keep schtum to health visitor!) but this one hates it!

Will try though

Thanks again xx
