Yesterday I thought I had a zit - but both my mum & dad plus my DD have all had sore ears

Theirs lasted about 12-18 hrs, mine is on day 3

It isn't inside like earache - it's the shell bit plus that ittle bit at the front

When will it go away - will I have to see the Dr tomorrow - I feel a bit daft but it bloody hurts, so much so that I am taking Paracetamol & codiene (the heavy duty ones). Plus I keep falling asleep (which usually means an infection)

I can't move my head as my jaw/neck/side of my face hurts too

Ow...ow...ow

No....not terminal, but really painful, worth going to see doc if no better by tomorrow
Take, ibuprofen if you can and paracetamol with or without codeine if needed.

Katymac · 29/07/2007 20:56

Paracetamol & codiene is barely touching it

Could you go to primary care?

Katymac · 29/07/2007 21:01

If I can't sleep I will - it's about 25 miles so I'd rather avoid it

I think I'll take more painkillers

Hope it stops hurting

Katymac · 29/07/2007 21:07

I had that once, it was an ear infection, that just affected outer ear.

It swelled, went red and throbbed. At first doc thought it was an infection from having pierced ears although the holes had closed up year ago), but it was an infection and went away wityh anti-biotics (well they made me throw up, but that's another story.......)

Katymac · 30/07/2007 08:01

I woke up after a very bad night & I don't think it's quite as bad

At least the codiene is working to some extent

So I might wait until lunchtime to see if I should phone the Dr

It might not be the same thing but I get swelling in the outer ear canal and painful outer ears from hayfever. Do you have other symptoms like weepy eyes or sniffles?

Leati · 30/07/2007 08:39

If all your teeth hurt and face...sinus infection is a likely cause. Did you have a cold or a bug lately?

Press on your forehead and cheek bones does it hurt?

These are signs of a sinus infection. A really bad one needs to be treated with antibiotics but a lesser one can be treated with saline drops and a good decongestions and lots of fluids.

I hope you feel better soon.
Good Luck!!!

LIZS · 31/07/2007 07:35

Had something similar a few weeks ago , a sort of boil which never fully came out but was red and sore on the front cartilage part of my ear (iyswim) and a dull ache behind. Went eventually.

Biglips · 31/07/2007 08:07

maybe its the Mumps?? unsure whether thats just in kids

Katymac · 31/07/2007 08:23

I have been up about an hour & it's gone down - but my ear hurts more

Biglips · 31/07/2007 09:26

have u googled it to see what it is?

TrinaJ · 31/07/2007 09:48

Sounds like it could be either otitis media or mumps - can have them as adult - my mum did.
Either way a docs visit is advised - They will be happy to see you even if it's only something minor - esp if you're in pain.
Try calling NHS direct see what they say?
Doesn't sound like bells palsy - my FIL had it and it was just like a stroke - one side of his face dropped but no pain as such.
You can also try NHSdirect - online they have a self diagnosis section.
Good luck!

jalopy · 31/07/2007 11:23

Perhaps it's a blocked salivary duct.

Katymac · 01/08/2007 21:06

Very nearly gone

Glad that's over
