Tight swollen feeling in legs/knees

For the last week or so I've had this weird tight feeling in both legs, around the knee area. It feels like tight muscles and hamstrings but when I squat down for example it's like the legs are swollen and it's really uncomfortable. But they don't really look as swollen as they feel iyswim. I've googled and most oedema cases seem to occur in the lower legs/feet but this is definitely in the thigh/knee area. I'm 38, had a baby a year ago, I've lost most of the baby weight but not all, I'm not overweight just average size at the moment. I've just finished my period but have never had anything like this around my period before and it's still there even though period has finished. I did speak to a pharmacist who said ibuprofen can cause fluid retention and I have been taking it a lot as I had a cold and then got my period. But it's just in the legs, not all over as you might expect with fluid retention. And also it's been a few days since I stopped taking ibuprofen and the weird feeling is still there. I'm just perplexed about what it could be and not sure if I need to be worried. Has anyone else experienced similar? And if so what was causing it?

If you press the part of your leg that feels weird does it leave a dent?

radioactiveimagination · 04/07/2019 21:46

Nope

It may be stiff knee joints rather than fluid retention? Is it worse at any particular time of day? Either way moving around (not jogging or anything!) should help. Also stretching hamstrings, calves and quads. I’d try that for a day or two and see. Unless you have any obvious swelling or redness or heat in the joints in which case see a Dr.

Thanks for replying, it definitely feels like tightness in the tissues not just the knee joint. It's not affected by the time of day and moving around seems to make no difference. I've walked, done gentle yoga and tried just lying with my legs up and nothing makes a difference, it's so weird!

Any redness or tender areas when you poke? Any ankle swelling?
Have you been active or sowing a lot of sitting down recently?

ImpracticalCape · 05/07/2019 08:16

Doing not sowing

radioactiveimagination · 05/07/2019 09:09

Thanks. No redness or tenderness. I've not been doing anything out of the ordinary. I walk and go to yoga class twice a week. I work from home sat at computer 3 days a week but try to get up and move periodically so I'm not sat still for too long. Weirdly, one leg feels pretty back to normal today but the right one's still not right. I sometimes got this kind of leg stiffness when I was pregnant but I'm not at the moment, I'm 13 months postpartum!
