Boil/abscess between breasts - large

Becca19962014 · 02/07/2019 21:28

So I've had a boil for about ten days which over the last few days has got much worse. It's been growing and growing inward not outward because of the location. I spoke to an oncall GP who prescribed a days worth of antibiotics until I could see my GP today which I started yesterday as I was feeling seriously unwell (dizzy/sick/diabetes issues).

GP was very concerned because of location - it's literally between my breasts, I can't go without a bra as they're so big the skin between is very thin due to Ehlers danlos (EDS) rips open, and it's growing inward. They said to give it 3 days of antibiotics and go to hospital to get it "sorted out"

I am extremely phobic of hospitals/Drs/anyone medical even seeing GP is a massive problem. I had a panic attack at GP surgery and ended up locking myself in the toilet for ages sobbing in fear, eventually having to leave when staff came in to see if I was ok.

The only access I have in terms of mental health is the mindfulness group which made things worse, everything I tried to do to combat phobia has made it worse.

Is it likely to go away just with antibiotics? I can't have the ideal ones for it as I can't have penicillin so am on erithromycin. She was really worried but couldnt do anything in the surgery due to the location.

Local anaesthetic doesn't work with me at all due to my EDS so it'll have to be done without on top of having to actually go in without fainting (which I've not been able to do in ages) and I can't have any dressing on it due to the location as it just falls off because of my EDS.

Does anyone know about these things?

That sounds good, Becca.

Becca19962014 · 07/07/2019 11:46

It's the same, not worse.

I've worked out i run out of antibiotics on Friday morning. Is that enough given its still weeping? Feeling dreadful mentally today. Very hot again and discovered after reading the booklet for the antibiotics they can cause autonomic dysfunction which I already have really badly anyway.

Had enough.

I'd wait and see- if it gets worse, then more ABs. It should just quietly shrink- you want it to heal from the inside out, to close up over the top.

Went to a&e as collapsed this afternoon twice.

They've told me it looks fine. They said they've concerns about my general health but can do nothing about that. Had a go a me re dentist and I lost it so they let me go as I couldn't cope at all. They said about speaking to crisis team but said they can't do anything other than teach me about mindfulness so I lied and said I already knew about that.

Really frightened tbh. But at least abscess is looking like its healing!

See the crisis team and get the ball rolling, you don't have to do mindfulness but they just might come up with some other support. Well done you for going to A and E.

Becca19962014 · 07/07/2019 23:26

No crisis team only do mindfulness, and hospitalisation (which isn't available in this county).

I hated being forced to go. Am now panicking the person who forced me into going (with threat do police) can find out what happened...

Couldn't get through today to mh team.

boil update looks completely healed now, though there's a lump. The antibiotics are making me feel really unwell now. I've had eight days worth and wondering if I can stop taking them. I've sought advice but am getting conflicting advice Confused I've tried call back from GP at surgery and NHS direct and they were all dismissive and said they didn't know if I should continue.

Not helpful at all.

My GP is on holiday for two weeks so I can't ask them and they were the ones who prescribed them.

It stopped leaking yesterday.

You MUST keep taking them unless you speak to a doctor or you risk a secondary infection.

Becca19962014 · 08/07/2019 23:27

My doctor is away and the others said they couldn't advise as their opinion was I shouldn't have been given them for abscess in first place or the ones I was given (even though I cannot have penicillin) never mind ten days worth. It's day 8 today so two to go but I've felt really unwell today.

I've no way of knowing if I feel so ill from infection or "just" the antibiotics. a&e were dismissive of it spreading yesterday telling me I'm fine and it's impossible and just ill from antibiotics.

Being sick means diabetes hard to control likewise collapsing more - both a&e werent bothered about as it's considered healed now so just antibiotics.

I need meds and food tomorrow and won't be able to get either if I continue with these meds as I'm so unwell.

I don't know why NHS direct call themselves an advice service when they aren't allowed to give any sodding advice!

How are you? 😊

Regarding the bra issue, have you looked at Molke bras? There's a thread on S and B atm and everyone says there great and not hot. Worth a look?

Becca19962014 · 11/07/2019 17:32

I finished the antibiotics on Tuesday as I started having blood in my urine which can apparently happen. The abscess has now gone, it's left a hole underneath which is a bit wierd Confused

Having a lot of teeth issues. Had appointment today which didn't go well re phobia. No one understands. I think it's one of the those words people use a lot but don't actually mean.

I'll have a look at the bra you mentioned. Thankyou.

Glad to hear the abscess is gone. I hope you get your teeth sorted.

LoafofSellotape · 12/07/2019 12:43

I expect the hole will fill in slowly over time. Hope your teeth get sorted x

Consult a qualified homeopath (Society of Homeopaths website or this link:
www.britishhomeopathic.org/treatment/find-a-homeopath-search/
I and many others find homeopathy is great for these things. The remedy sounds as if it could be Hepar Sulph or Silica but you do need professional advice.

Becca19962014 · 12/07/2019 12:55

The nearest homeopath is over fifty miles away unfortunately. I've belladonna I usually use for mouth stuff.
