Hi. Started taking the mini pill about 8 days ago. I am on a weight loss diet and so far I know have been doing really really well and have stuck with it the longest ever, about 3 months.

I know for a fact that I have lost weight cos I have just chucked 12 pairs of trousers which are now HUGE (have been strictly following GI diet).

I have just looked down at myself and I now feel a HUGE FAT BLOATER and feel like i've just put back on about a stone. Can anyone explain this please!! Whats going on?

WE are talking literally 8 days and I have been eating exactly the same and if anything less? PLEASE.

i have no idea, sorry, but it may take a few weeks to settle into your system.

I was on it, for a yr, I actually lost weight but this was because i was watching what I was eating.

I am going back on it inthe next few days so I will let you know how it effects me.

TheMaskedPoster · 26/07/2007 18:50

I took cerazette for a couple of years after having dd ... I put on weight to begin with, but that was cos I was eating my bodyweight in food daily. I then decided to lose weight and managed to easily and got down to a size 10 (whilst still on the pill)

Roskva · 26/07/2007 18:52

Cerazette made me terminally tired - like deadly, absolutely no energy, I must be ill kind of tired - so yes, I gained weight, because I didn't have the energy to do anything (I realised it was the Cerazette when I missed 2 in a row and felt better than I had in months)

Pinions · 26/07/2007 19:25

Roskva. That could be me right now. NO energy at all, feeling very slow and lethargic, mo motivation to exercise. I'm thinking now whether to stop taking it altogether, am not taking it for contraception reasons but for hormones.

No, but it killed my libido, intensified my PND astronomically, made me bleed constantly and caused me to break out in boil/cystic acne.

Roskva · 26/07/2007 20:23

Pinions, I would go back to your doctor and discuss whether there are any other options for you. The leaflet that comes with Cerazette does list tiredness as a potential side effect, and if it's making you feel the way it made me feel, that is not good.

Pinions · 26/07/2007 20:29

Expat I think I have read every one of your side effects, most of them pretty worrying.

Have got to say that on the whole mood wise I feel slightly better, was at the omg I'm gonna rip someones head off stage and now feel much more on an even keel so to speak. I do feel extremely lethargic though? And as I mentioned feel like I've put on about a stone, just great.

Am bf and feel that "due on" any day now feeling, but nothing actually arrives iyswim. It has been like this for about 5 wks and I'm at my wits end as no-one seems to have the answer really. Can't stop bf cos baby is not in the slightest bit interested in a bottle.

So this is why the doctor gave me the mini pill.

There are other forms of contraception available to BF mothers, though.

Couldn't hurt to see a doc about it.

Pinions · 26/07/2007 20:36

Not using it for contraception at all. Using it to stop pmt rage!!

Yes if it continues will have to go back. Also feeling really spacey/confused half the time...I NEED a period aaarghhhhhhh!

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 26/07/2007 20:38

Well, obviously it's not working .

Pinions · 26/07/2007 20:49

Yes my friend its not. .

OP posts:
BracingAir · 26/07/2007 21:09

i feel exhausted and am on cerazette too! I wish studies were done showing which brand leads more commonly to which side affects. I am desperate to know of a pill that doesn't exhaust me.

re weight gain - i follow as a general rule the GI diet - even for weight maintenance. I havent been able to lose, so ive stopped trying.I havent gained either. I never really related it to cerazzete though.

Pinions · 26/07/2007 23:10

Do you know what i bet it is the pill. I have always been overweight but since the birth of ds2 and no contraception i have shed LOADS of weight...

Would be nice to be losing weight and having hormones balanced though.

Pinions · 26/07/2007 23:12

OK so next question.

If i stop breastfeeding then am i right in thinking periods will start pretty normally and therefore hormones back to normal??

pinions - try the pill yazmin or jasmin it is designed for women who put weight on with pills.

"info on it here www.yasmin-us.com/aboutyasmin_1.htm"
not a mini pill thou if BF

gogetter · 26/07/2007 23:22

ah feck, i can never ace the link thingy

Pinions · 26/07/2007 23:28

Yeh have heard about this yasmin.

Never heard of it b4 mn. Don't think the doctors have ever mentioned it either, probably costs too much.

Have heard that the injection/implanon also makes you put on weight?

And that the coil that I REALLY don't like the idea of can fall out!?

Condoms I hate. I hate the word alone. And withdrawal don't go there, so i guess it will have to be some kind of pill or another.

Bump

OP posts:
littlemisswhoops · 27/07/2007 08:40

I have just been prescribed Cerazette but am going to see the doctor today as everyone of the side effects I got when I had the mirena coil and have just lost a shed load of weight and got my skin sorted so I really don't want a pill to reverse all those things!
I was on Yasmin before this but my new doctor told me I shouldn't be on it because of my weight but I never had any side effects from it.
Am also telling dh if he doesn't want anymore kids he can have the chop

Pinions · 27/07/2007 08:50

Yes opinions on Yasmin too please???

OP posts:
Pinions · 27/07/2007 08:51

I think the hormones released with the mirena are exactly the same as Cerazette?

Cerazette made me lose weight (too much) and made my hair fall out.

Pinions · 27/07/2007 08:53

HATE them.

No hormonal contraception will make you put on weight - what some will do is change your appetite, and thus if you eat more, you will put on weight. Some people feel less hungry and lose weight, it does work both ways, and thats why you are weighed every time you go to get a repeat prescription.

I would say that taking Cerazette for 8 days is not going to change your weight so dramatically, you will definitely get some side effects initially, but these should settle down, and this can take a few packets, which is why normally you get 3 packs at first to try it out. All side effects should have settled by then, or if they haven't, this isn't a method for you.

You probably won't get a period on Cerazette as it stops ovulation and prevents your womb lining from thickening up, so there is no need for a period to occur. Lots of irregular bleeding is common at first though, and some women will have a regular-ish bleed, but this usually ceases after 3-6 months.

Don't believe the hype about Yasmin combined pill (which is not recommended during breast feeding, as any combined pill will interefere with milk production). When it was first released in this country (about 5 years ago) it advertised itself as the skin-friendly, miracle weight-loss pill but the company has since had to retract all of these statements because it has been proven to be untrue. Obviously this pill will suit some people very well, just like a lot of the others will suit some people too, but don't believe the false advertising.
