My ds is 19 months and I haven't heard anything from the health board about his one year assessment. Are they just really behind or are they not doing it anymore? We're in Skerries (obviously...) I last went to my health visitor when he was about 12 months and can't remember if/when she wanted to see him again. I suppose there's not much need unless I have a specific question. Any comments much appreciated...

Hi skerriesmum, we spoke before namechange about window locks. That was when we had a little drop of sunshine in ireland!

I visited hv with ds when he was 13mths for my own benefit, and she vaguely agreed that this was his 1yr assessment. Same thing as he reached two, just popped in for my own peace of mind. She was happy to see me and went through the various weighing and measuring (much to the disgust of ds).

I seem to remember her advice was to call in anytime but she wouldnt be calling us in herself. Has your ds had his hearing tests etc because there doesnt seem to be anything scheduled after that.

Hi, nice to hear from you again! The weather is awful, like November, and so suddenly...
Ds had a hearing test with the hv at about 7 months. I thought though that there was a developmental check offered by the health board for all one year olds, carried out at your doctor's surgery. Maybe I'll call into the hv anyway just to say hello and see if she wants to do any weighing etc but mine isn't brilliant so I'm not too pushed!

With my ds who is now 2.5 we had the 8 month check where they do the hearing test, and see if they can sit up and that, and then they called us in when he was nearly 2.

At this check they have them build a tower with blocks (need to be able to stack), hand them a hairbrush and ask them what you do with this, and show them pictures in a book and ask them to name them. As far as I know there is no 1 year check.

There is however a 3 year developmental check as well, and then they look at the childs speech development, and physical development, and so on.

Having said that I know people who were never called for the 2 or 3 ye\ar check, and had to ring the health nurse to set up an appointment. HTH.

Thanks zaphod! Nice to hear your experiences. He'll be two soon enough and to my relief he already knows what a hairbrush is for

There is a one year check up (actually its supposed to be done at 9 months). When I lived in Rush my dd wasn't called until she was nearly 16 months for hers. I would check though in case they have missed you.
