What's the longest anyone's gone without periods due to breastfeeding? And can you pinpoint what made them start again?

I haven't had a period in 18m (including pregnancy).

I was told that, if you don't start within a couple of months of giving birth, then they will start when you have stopped feeding at night and started solids. Was this the case for you? It was for me with nos 1 and 2 - I started periods again 6-8w after starting solids, but 3m and 1m after stopping feeding at night.

My DS is 12 months and I haven't had a period yet, though I'm getting the feeling it won't be much longer. He's feeding morning and night but hasn't had a night feed for 5 months. For my other 2 babies it was about 9/10 months after the birth, so this is my personal record

i fed ds 'til he was 6 months & didn't get my period until he was 11 months. with dd, i fed her for 18 months & my period returnd about 3 months after i stopped. hello btw!

I wish I could remember! My postnatal brain is mush.
I am fully BF DS who is 9 weeks, some odd pinkish discharge now and then - but could still be lochia.
With DD I reckon it was once I gave up the morning feed at about 12 months?????

About to celebrate 2 years without one (as long as you exclude the deluge post birth!). Still feeding though only rarely at night these days.

With Ds1 I didn't have a period until after I stopped breastfeeding him completely at about 9 months. With Ds2 I continued feeding him until he was about 1 and my periods started somewhat erratically towards the end of this time probably because he wasn't taking that much milk. Both children were taking solids in good amounts well before my periods started.

With one of my DC's baby was about 14-15 months before period returned, though SIL (early 40's at the time) hers never returned as she went straight from breastfeeding to menopause is that a possibility

What a scarey thought!

DD is 9 months and I have PMT cramps but no bleed every month, and I'm also ovulating, so I plan to have number 2 before they return if I can

PrettyCandles · 24/07/2007 12:39

How do you know you're ov'ing if you have no periods?

ruddynorah · 24/07/2007 12:41

mine came back one month after stopping bf. no periods even when not feeding through the night, no periods even when weaning. only came back after stopping completely. in fact, they didn't really come back then either. i went back on the pill, so the period after the month was actually only a bleed IYSWIM.

ov tests - pink candles, if the cm and rampantness didtip me off

PetitFilou1 · 24/07/2007 15:36

PrettyCandles that's about the same as it was for me after I had dd (no 2 child who was bf for 13.5 months)

PrettyCandles · 24/07/2007 16:36

Durr. Shall I ask next, "How do you know that you're pregnant if there's no bump?"

electra · 24/07/2007 16:38

After dd2 I had no period for about 2 years, I think. I began to wonder if they would ever return!

whomovedmychocolate · 24/07/2007 16:53

lol pinkcandles - don't worry my GP asked me the exact same thing!
