Mirena Going 'Off'?

What side effects might I expect if my Mirena coil is overdue to be removed by about 9 months? I'm just petrified of having it removed as I was unconcious when it went in. What may happen if I don't get the guts to do it soon?

The hormones deplete - you may start to get moro bleeding etc - but the localised coil effect remains but the whole thing becomes
less effective and should be replaced. I thought I'd heard it had now been licensed for up to 7 years effectiveness but my gp disagreed.

btw removal was nothing like as painful or problematic as insertion
