Tooth chip on front tooth 😟 Any dentists around to give advice?

I just noticed a strange sensation when running my tongue across my teeth so went to look in a mirror

It appears that a piece of tooth, about half the length of my tooth from the gum and a couple of mm wide has disappeared

Its looks pretty awful as I now have an odd gap between my 2 front front which is very visible when I talk or smile

I'll phone my dentist first thing in the morning but just wondering if there are any dentists around who can advise me if there is likely anything that can be done to improve the appearance and also prevent my teeth disintergrating further

I'm 44 and don't have the best of teeth already. My teeth are very tightly packed so it's difficult to properly clean in between as many of my teeth are so close to the next there isn't even room for floss let alone ones of those mini interdental brushes

I didn't think there was room for floss between mine until I spent 6 months (and about £300) in the hygienists. Turned out there is space now.

I have a chipped front tooth and get composite NHS filling on it but it doesn't last long and I lose a bit of tooth each time to having it filed down. I'm going to ask about a crown next time. It does depend though, mine is just chipped at the bottom

I used to freeze chocoalte and bite into it straight from the freezer...

Until the day I felt "something" went wrong.

I took a vertical chip out of one of my front teeth about 2mm high and about 1mm wide. Very, very noticeable. It happened on a Sunday and I spent all night crying!"

I phoned my dentist first thing Monday morning in tears and she squeezed me in as an emergency. Basically not a problem. She put a "white filling" over it and sort of padded it at the back to anchor it in place. I went away happy... and carried on biting my nails. It fell off. She put it on again and said if I didn't stop biting my nails then the next stop would be a veneer.

I stopped biting and this was 11 years ago... :)

I'm not a nail biter and I don't even like chocolate that's been in the fridge let alone the freezer!

For anyone who is interested, my dentist in a genius!

Appointment at 4.10pm and I was leaving with a fully repaired tooth at 4.30pm. Amazing!

I've booked in with the hygienist next week to blast off as much plaque/tartar as possible

Glad to hear it Fizz ! I remember coming out of my appointment thinking "wow! didn't know it would be so quick/easy". All those tears for nothing.

Really glad to read this. Ds(8) fell at school on Friday and we only realised at bedtime that he's chilled a bit off the bottom of his front tooth.

Will be ringing his dentist first thing Monday morning and really hoping they can do something for it.

Chipped obviously, not chilled!
