I didn't used to cos I was very underweight. Then I put on weight but had been left with osteoporosis and on meds for that. Then I got pregnant with DS1, then was breastfeeding, then anaemic on and off, till DS2 and still anaemic!

Always an excuse...

hellobello · 22/07/2007 11:06

I would if I didn't faint every time I have any blood taken. One time I cut my finger and fainted and knocked myself out. I don't like it.

mylittlefreya · 22/07/2007 15:27

that should say rhesus negative

coddy · 22/07/2007 15:31

JoolsToo · 22/07/2007 15:37

unless you're A-

SaintGeorge · 22/07/2007 15:39

Yeah, but coddy has that special marine antigen.

coddy · 22/07/2007 17:41

ooh ill look

Lilymaid · 22/07/2007 17:48

I used to BC but since (and DS1 is now 20) I have always been rejected! When the proper blood test comes back later it says that I am not anaemic, but I fail the basic test carried out at the session. DH gives (big palaver and multiple cups of tea/biscuits). DS1 has registered as bone marrow donor, so at least our family is contributing.

Malfoynomore · 22/07/2007 17:56

Just took that test, and appanrelty I can't give blood wbecause I have been around infectious diseases (used to work on HIV ward for a while, and as a Nurse have also been around other serious infections)...but I can't anyway, cos I tend to have low Hb

Malfoynomore · 22/07/2007 17:58

am on the organ donor register though....

taxidriver · 22/07/2007 18:10

i ave done about 3 times in my life!
but they alwasy seem to come when i am at work,, or i forget.. though they do keep reminding me. but last time they told me off for not making an appointment which put me of a bit, i would prefer jus to turn up!
plus i am sue it made me feel tired.
it is good for men to donate apparently. reinvigorates their iron, but we dont need it what with menstruation.
had not read thread if i am repeating what has bee said already

MaryAnnSingleton · 22/07/2007 18:12

Another one politely asked to give up... they take a while to find the vein, then it comes out very very slowly (was there 3 times as long as everyone else last time, and still didn't fill the bag), and then I go a nice shade of white .

Bloody embarrassing when they all kept coming to look at the girl with the blood coming out weird

FLIER · 23/07/2007 08:32

i had to have a blood transfusion after my first birth, but sadly can't give blood back as not allowed once you've had a transfusion. dh started giving blood after i had the transfusion, tho, and goes regularly.

Nymphadora · 23/07/2007 08:42

Can't as I can't give enough. The blood stops coming and I pass out

edam · 23/07/2007 08:45

I can't as I take daily medicine - it's in my bloodstream and wouldn't be good for anyone who doesn't need to take it, IYSIM. Dh is a regular blood donor though, has certificates and everything for giving so much. I always say 'give an extra pint for me'.

I do admire/am grateful for people who donate. You never know when you might need it. And it's shocking how few people give.

edam · 23/07/2007 08:48

How few people who are able, I mean, not criticising anyone who can't.

Although, tbh, I'd struggle as I hate, hate, hate anyone taking blood. Makes me very queasy. But I hope I'd try.

numptysmummy · 23/07/2007 08:50

I would but i had a blood transfusion after dd1 so i'm not allowed to either. Sad about it really cos i 'Bleed' really easily and needles don't bother me.
