Stiff fingers at night/in the morning - is this just normal?

Recently when I wake in the night and in the morning I find that my fingers feel stiff, sore to move and kind of puffy. Its not really bad, I can move them and it wears off once I'm up and about and using them.

Does anyone else get this? I've got some other issues at the moment and not sure whether to add this to the list or if its just something everyone gets and I've only just started noticing!

SarahJinx Thanks for replying. I’ve had full blood count and esr which were normal. Should that have picked something up, or are there other tests I should ask for?

SheldonSaysSo I’ve not heard of that before, I’ll look it up. Yes, it’s pretty stiff and painful when I wake (actually more so when I wake at night than first thing in the morning, strangely!) but by the time I’m up and out of bed seems okay. Possibly slightly stuffier than usual throughout the day, but probably wouldn’t notice if I wasn’t looking out for it.

Rheumatoid factor
CRP
ANA
general autoimmune profile for swollen joints

OP I hadn't heard of it either and was diagnosed younger than you (just to dispel the myth about being too young!). It could definitely be a temporary reaction to a virus rather than permanent. Also, even if blood test results are okay do get referred to rheumatology. They look at lots of other things besides blood tests to rule things out.

I had this after being pregnant. It faded away over time.

jinglebellmel · 30/05/2019 13:29

Fretfulparent thanks I will ask if they can run these tests.

SheldonSaysSo Thank you (don't feel too young for anything these days sadly!!) I can't see the GP taking much interest in this or referring me to be honest, but I will try. I've had a series of issues that have worried me over the last few months - it'd be nice if they were all neatly connected and I could just get to the bottom of them to be honest!

I saw a gp yesterday - she looked at my hands and said she thought inflammatory arthritis was unlikely. She also said she struggled to find many raised glands, which was a little frustrating as I can definitely feel them! She said she could order blood tests if I really wanted her to but didn’t think there was much point. She’d made me feel a like I was going mad/imagining things by that point so I said I’d wait and see if it got any worse. Not sure if that was the right decision, but I guess if it is anything then it will get worse/become more obvious.

I clicked on this as I have just started getting stiff, puffy fingers in the mornings, to go with my very stiff and painful legs. Wears off after a few mins.
Guess what?
I am on levothyroxine too. Only been on it about 7 weeks.
Hmmmm....

I got this (im 32) and was struggling to pick up cups/dress myself. Bloods all came back normal, i could also get a bit glandy and very fatigued. I started taking multivitamins every day just in case and it worked a treat! I think sometimes deficiencies can be too subtle for the tests?

jinglebellmel · 13/06/2019 09:49

Bluetrews25 That’s interested. I’m not aware of a link with levithyroxibe but who knows! Have you seen a dr about it?

OnlineAlienator Glad you found something to sort you out! Yes all tests came back normal fir vitamins etc but sure a multi but can’t hurt.

Jinglebellmel - not been on it very long, and it's just easing a little now. There seem to be a lot of side-effects if you look online! This may not be one, but it just seemed a bit of a coincidence.

This is such an old thread - but wondered if you ever got to the bottom of this? @jinglebellmel I hope so!
