How to get my ds chubby

newlifenewname · 20/07/2007 10:39

He is soooooooo thin, so is dd but he is just so very thin. He is fair skinned too slo he looks a little unhealthy.

They all eat pretty well and they all have roughly the same so what can I do.

We have full fat milk
Porridge for breakfast (other two have other cereals)
Snack of fruit and/or biscuit of some type once or twice a day
Flapjacks or cake once or twice a week, when I can be bothered to make
Sanwiches type lunch at home or school dinners when at school
Evening meal of pasta, meat and veg in some combination usually or fish and potatoes

Any ideas?

My DD has had health problems and as a result is very little. The advice from her dietician was that just a few calories a day can make a real difference to child, so we add extra olive oil into her main meals, sneak extra cheese into sandwiches etc. I always take healthy snacks out with me, so that when she is hungry she can eat. We were also advised to give her sugar, but I have to say that I have kept this to very small amounts of quality chocolate. DD also drinks high energy milk (this is on prescription).

My DD's weight hasn't shot up, but she maintains nicely now and looks much healthier. She has Dalavit vitamin drops on presciption also.

Mojo

new, my DS is like this

I do what mojo does (add butter/oil etc to meals) but he's STILL thin

HV says he's just made that way and i believe her

moljam · 20/07/2007 14:10

my dd and eldest ds are like this but my youngest ds is chubby.theyre now 7 and 6.not ill just skinny.thats just how they are.

cornsilk · 20/07/2007 14:12

Ds 1 very thin. Won't wash/brush his hair either. Looks like a Dickens character! But he has plenty of energy!

mankyscotslass · 20/07/2007 15:12

Eldest DS is skinny too...no amount of fullcream milk, butter or olive oil makes a difference. REckin he is just meant to be like that!

Newlife - Malorytowers started a thread re her dd yesterday.

Some good ideas there (if you ignore the outburst which occured towards the end )

Oblomov · 20/07/2007 15:22

Can you link it mercy? There is nothing of ds(3.5) even though he eats like a 7 yr old - bread pasta bananas, Jacket pot and beans. I don't get it.

MrsBadger · 20/07/2007 15:25

here it is
Enid is a bit of a guru too.

Oblomov · 20/07/2007 15:54

Thank you. Very intersting. Ds eats most of the suggestions already. Maybe I should try more crumpets and croissants. and there was a buzz lightyear smoothie suggestion - that would go down a treat, I shall look out for that. I will look into Minadex.

JoolsToo · 20/07/2007 16:03

lots of little kids are a bit scraggy, they grow out of it.

they do expend a LOT of energy

Mercy · 20/07/2007 16:05

Mrs Badger - completely agree with you re Enid!
