Anyone else use Phenergan elixir for travel sickness

After much travel sickness - DS1 crying and yelling and making a right carry on when actually being sick, DS2 making himself sick taking any kind of travel sickness tablets, we eventually got Phenergan prescribed. However, on the box it says to give it the night before. We did this last time we travelled anywhere and the boys, although not actually sick, felt really nauseous, and made a right carry on.
Would it be ok to give it perhaps an hour or two before the journey instead

Isn't that the stuff that makes them either
1 fall asleep, or
2 go hyper?

pyjamaqueen · 19/07/2007 08:58

I wouldn't use that stuff.

Stugeron works for my dd. You could also try giving them ginger.

My ds1 was climbing the walls with this- he was almost posessed.

Well DS2 , who has an intolerance to certain things was ok with it, neither of them were hyper, or sleepy for that matter

I'm pretty sure that's what I was eventually given for my car sickness, and I can remember being given it before we set off - probably about 30mins. I can also remember that, having tried all the vetinary products, the dog that we got when I was 5 was also given it. It was great, by this time I had 1/2tsp, whilst the dog had 2tsp. Absolutely disgusting, but it cured me.

I've used Phenergan with dd. It worked for her but it did make her pretty drowsy so I think I will use a lower dose next time. I once used it a couple of hours before we set off and it didn't make much difference tbh.

dd also has wrist bands for shorter journeys - they work really well too

Thanks mistlethrush and mercy. I will try giving it to them tomorrow an hour or so before we travel, and see if that makes a difference
